Re: Spring Build
Well... regarding budget it might vary. Semi retired on a small NHS pension, looking for a small part time job. But, single now, low maintenance lifestyle, maybe about £400 if I look after pennies. Been surfing around, don,t really want to buy bespoke. As mentioned before, would like to do a build, ...

Spring Build
After my unsuccessful attempts to get crunching going on my spare PS3 (see threads PS3 and help, if interested), I have decided to build a dedicated cruncher. Any advice/ thoughts appreciated.... i.e.O/S GPU /CPU and the like. I have a limited budget, so might run into summer. :) :)
Re: PS 3
Thanks for feedback Alez. shall post new thread. It's going to be a cruncher only. Built some in the past from "odds and sods" I think I will need advice about O/S.. GPU/CPU issues etc. :)

Re: PS 3
Well folks... this seems to be a no brainer. After going around the "mulberry bush" , it looks grim. Sony have literally pulled the plug on all network computing, upgrade your ps3 and you lose the back door .. i.e. folding@home. So, spring project, buy a case, m/board etc. and build...shoul...

Re: SPLIT CPID's / Accounts
Thanks Alez. It would have worked fine... But I have 2 Boinc accounts now and they cannot be reconciled (apparently).. I seem to recall, in distant times, that when seti went boinc, my classic credits were converted. Thus 2 accounts! So, going to have a play with Linux and PS3....(wailing and gnashi...

Re: Fun, Jokes and more ...
I live in an area between Yorkshire and Lancashire, where dialects can often be misunderstood... (I.E. lets have a beer = thermonuclear war!) So, I will try one... Theres two owd chaps (old men) going down a country lane...they see a sheep tangled in a barbed wire fence. "ey up" (means.. l...

Re: SPLIT CPID's / Accounts

I have 2 accounts on the seti... classic and boinc. can they be reconciled... (can remember the (very) old email account, but not a cat in hells chance of the password). If not, the good news is, they are on the team stats... or are they?

Thankyou folks, for your kind welcomes.. and wish you and yours all the best in the forthcoming year. As a slight aside, may I point out that I have posted under"help" regarding PS3. I am very rusty with things nowadays, and all help and advice would be gratefully appreciated.

PS 3
Hello folks, I have a PS 3, which is lying, mainly unused, apart from a sporadic bit of gaming... I believe it could be utilised for the "greater good". Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. Hope you all have a good start to the new year.
