Re: Gerasim challenge frm Colombia Team

I run only the spstarter WU because they have a fairly consistent run times. I've seen Test Separator WU that are very short and the more times the BOINC Client has to load/unload WU the less time it spends crunching. I don't really know how much difference it makes (if any) but I stick with the sps...

The problem isn't hyperthreading. The issue is it slams ALL WU onto the 1st 32 threads of a machine. If you only have 32 threads then it isn't an issue.

No, regardless of how many instances are run ALL QuChem WU will be assigned to the 1st 32 threads with the taskset affinity mask. You could certainly run another project on the top 32 threads but then you are using HT and the QuChem WU will take twice as long as running with threads vs cores. The Wu...

There is a native Linux app that doesn't require VBox and it runs quite well. The only caveat is you need to turn HT OFF if you have more than 32 threads. The app issues the taskset command 0xFFFFFFFF that puts all running WU onto the 1st 32 threads. Quite often the program launches child processes ...

Actually once it starts you run 1 hr WU and as small of a cache as you can - as in tiny. Rosetta puts out new series of WU quite frequently. I don't think we are going to worry about week 4. The next thing of interest starts Nov 4 and that is the PURE event. That is based on points and the pay-to-play teams don't get to compete. If Zika is available you can start bunkering on the 25th.

I believe the PURE week starts Nov 4. If they still have Zika available then you can load up on the 25th. It is the highest paying project ... MIPs is the worst.

If Zika is gone I don't really know what is best after that.
