Not a great start. Mostly project has no tasks available and I'm sure the scheduler on 7.4.34 doesn't work. Have eDGES set as highest priority by a factor of over 1000 and yet I keep getting work for other projects plus suspend gpu doesn't work. Going to roll back to 7.4.27 on all my systems without miners as that at least does work as badly as it ever did.

I'm running 7.4.22 ad 7.4.27 on my systems and they don't get work either. Not without bugging the server anyway
#4 Re: 5/1-10/1 DC-Vault stress test of EDGeS servers
Yip, I keep getting project has no tasks available and then my backup projects kick in. Project is not generating enough work and what little it is producing is being sucked away relentlessly. I have set LHC and Rosetta as backups so at least TSBT should get a bit of a boost there.
Looks like I will be heading back to Africa so babysitting projects and manually requesting work is out of the question. Guess it will be what it will be.

A FYI about the the EDGeS zeta app, once a WU starts it doesn't suspend. So be aware if plan to run it on a system you intend to use and expect it to suspend if system in use. It's a known issue with the project admins.
#6 Re: 5/1-10/1 DC-Vault stress test of EDGeS servers
Don't think any of the apps checkpoint either. Still can't get enough work to cause any damage on the project, but guess everyone is in the same boat. More of a lucky draw than a competition.

#7 Re: 5/1-10/1 DC-Vault stress test of EDGeS servers
EDGeS doesn't respond to project priority. dDM, Find or SRBase set at 50 will download new work and run in priority to EDGeS set at 10000. Only way to guarantee EDGeS is to run no other cpu project, but since it keeps running out of work not going to do that.
Despite all this we are still in 3rd and you are in 3rd

Looks like the Poles of BOINC@Poland have found a way to circumvent the WU problem! The bloody waltzed all over me..
#9 Re: 5/1-10/1 DC-Vault stress test of EDGeS servers
This is the normal problem we have with the amphibians of LAF. We just get drowned in a sea of them. Always an issue with teams that have a few dedicated crunchers on competitions versus teams that are just huge. At least it was Boinc@Poland. If it was the polish national team I would say on previous history they were cheating
The only way I can get round it is to set only EDGeS on a system but as it keeps running out of work I am not willing to go this route, especially as I will be away from my crunchers soon.

In fact as far as I can tell, you can't build up any buffer on EDGeS. If you have 3 cores crunching it will give you 3 units if it has any.

#11 Re: 5/1-10/1 DC-Vault stress test of EDGeS servers
Anyone tried setting the <ncpus>, in cc_config.xml, to double or triple your actual cores? Worked on another project for me to bunker, but it will start that many WUs if left that way.
#12 Re: 5/1-10/1 DC-Vault stress test of EDGeS servers
Don't think even that is a winner as I have set an i7 on the task now, 8 cores, 7 on Boinc and I still only get 3 units waiting to run. Would be interesting to find out what the max units per core was on this project. Seems they have set it up as a backup project to run a few units now and again. It's set to have seti on 2%, EDGeS on 10000 % and I get 2 days of seti cpu units downloaded and 3 EDGeS units for a whole 30 mins of a buffer.

and another random thought on this project. How the hell did Merlyn manage 1 million points on it ? Now that was serious dedication to the crunching cause.

I did wonder how he managed that when I was looking at the stats yesterday. Quite an impressive feat going by my efforts so far!
The only way I seem to be able to pick up occasional units is by manually updating the project and seeing if I get anything, not too handy during a comp

Ironically for a project that seems to have no work this competition is hard work!
If I got credit for everytime I've hit the update button to try and download some units I'd probably be top of the leader board

As scole noted on the comp forum , have you seen the number of invalids ?
I never noticed I had so many either. They are all marked invalid with a successful outcome and valid exit. I can see no difference between the units marked valid and the units marked invalid ? Is the project simply accepting 2 of the 3 produced units valid and marking the 3rd unit invalid ?
This is not good, as everything I get is running successfully before turning out to be a waste of time. Adds to all the wasted time I am getting when my systems are sitting idle waiting on work.
Also a lot of the time I get no work available on project with an auto update from the project but badger it a few times with a manual update and sometimes you get work ? This project is very hard work. I might actually give up before the end.
TSBT is safely in 2nd.

actually more worrying, from checking my systems if a unit gets sent to a win box and a linux box whichever operating system gets sent the 3rd will determine which 2 units validate. linux always validates linux and win marked invalid. Same win always validates win and linux marked invalid. This is a huge issue with the project and a massive waste of our resources.

I didn't check all the units I've done but on the first page of results I'd say ~30% have been validated by a linux pc.
However for the few invalid units I've got - I haven't run anywhere near as many as you two - the two successful computers were indeed running linux.
I'll run a few more units, if I can get any, and then call it quits I think.

The hour is later than you think... :)
Meanwhile..the French appear to have fallen asleep and their systems have run out of work! All we have to do is stay awake for the next 23 hours while we constantly click the Update button.

No chicken counting yet I've managed to grab 5th Think I'll add a few Linux cores and see if I can screw up other peoples validation

finished with TSBT 2nd from 9
Individually
scole of TSBT 3rd
alez [ TSBT's Pirate ] 5th
Paul of TSBT 38th
a superb effort from the 3 of us to beat far bigger teams with far more numbers involved. Should definitely be regarded as a Pirate challenge
