There's been another couple of new projects launched lately. :)

The first is currently *nix only but is expanding to include Macs/Windoze fairly soon... See the announcement at WCG or just read the short summary below...

28 June 2010
Launch of The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 Project

Category: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2
Tags: Project Event
Summary
World Community Grid is pleased to launch the Linux version of The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 (CEP2). This project is provided by the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA and hopes to find promising new materials for organic solar cells.

The second one has been _silently_ launched. :? This means that there is no announcement so you'll have to make do with my short summary below...

23 Aug 2010
Launch of Computing for Clean Water Project

Category: Computing for Clean Water
Tags: Project Event
Summary
The mission of Computing for Clean Water is to provide deeper insight on the molecular scale into the origins of the efficient flow of water through a novel class of filter materials. This insight will in turn guide future development of low-cost and more efficient water filters.

After a long silence there is once again a new project over at WCG. There's been no official news item/announcement but you can just read the short summary below...

01 Sep 2011
Launch of Drug Search for Leishmaniasis

Summary
The mission of Drug Search for Leishmaniasis is to identify potential molecule candidates that could possibly be developed into treatments for Leishmaniasis. The extensive computing power of World Community Grid will be used to perform computer simulations of the interactions between millions of chemical compounds and certain target proteins. This will help find the most promising compounds that may lead to effective treatments for the disease.

Launch of the GO Fight Against Malaria Project

Category: GO Fight Against Malaria
Summary
World Community Grid is pleased to announce the launch of the GO Fight Against Malaria project.

Malaria is one of the one of the three deadliest infectious diseases on earth and is caused by parasites that infect both humans and animals. Half of the entire human population is at risk: in 2006, 247 million people became infected with malaria. Of the nearly one million deaths caused by malaria each year, 85% of those are children.

The researchers at The Scripps Research Institute, are running the GO Fight Against Malaria project on World Community Grid to evaluate millions of candidate compounds to advance the search for new drugs that can cure patients who are infected with multi-drug-resistant mutant “superbugs” of malaria.

29 Feb 2012
Launch of the Say No to Schistosoma Research Project

Category: Say No to Schistosoma
Summary
Schistosomiasis is a tropical disease caused by parasitic worms that are transmitted by freshwater snails. The disease kills 200,000 people each year and affects over 207 million people. Schistosomiasis is second only to malaria in its socioeconomic devastation.

The researchers at Infórium University in Belo Horizonte and FIOCRUZ-Minas, Brazil, are running the Say No to Schistosoma project on World Community Grid to perform computer simulations of the interactions between millions of chemical compounds and certain target proteins. This will help find the most promising compounds that may lead to effective treatments for the disease.

Please join us and donate your unused computer time to help search for new drugs to treat this severe and neglected disease!

Computing for Sustainable Water live webcast

Category: Computing for Sustainable Water
Summary
World Community Grid is please to announce the launch of the Computing for Sustainable Water project!
Coinciding with the launch of the Computing for Sustainable Water project will be a live webcast where Dr. Gerry Learmonth, Sr. from the University of Virginia will give an overview of this exciting new project.
The webcast will take place on April 20, 2012, starting promptly at 12:00PM Eastern Time (USA), which is 16:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Please join a few minutes early so that you're sure not to miss anything.

About the project
The Computing for Sustainable Water (CFSW) project is one of three water-related projects selected to run on the IBM World Community Grid. This project evolved from the UVa Bay Game as a very detailed, simulation-only model of the Chesapeake Bay. Not a game, the CFSW model simulates over 34,000 spatial areas; 1,069 river and stream segments; and 4 million households over a 20-year period on a monthly basis. The model explores the potential outcomes of various practices ("Best Management Practices") on the nutrient loads reaching and impacting Bay health.
