I've got most of my machines back on now. CPU for TSBT WCG, GPU for AP Collatz

It's showing! At the 12 hour mark we have over 600k showing on Bstats. A 1.2M credit day would really be something.

Pete, you got that 2990WX humming yet?

That's not funny. It was humming along nicely last night. This morning I was hoping to install mint on it. I turned the rig off as I also wanted to move to another spot. Dead as a Dodo, would not restart, no fans, just a hint of green led at the bottom of the board. I reinstalled the 1950X still no cigar. Suspect PSU, checked with my PSU tester and it shows flashing HH on the negative 12V rail. Got no spare, got no money to buy a new one. Tomorrow I will shut down a known working unit and try the PSU that way.

Jeez Cruncher Pete , that's unlucky and definitely not funny.
Beginning to think these 2990W boards are hard on PSU's. Maybe AMD are not being quite ' honest ' on exactly how much power these boards take or they really pull power on first start up before settling down ?

I am sorry guys, but as far as WCG goes this year, I doubt I can recover in time to give my full output and just have to crunch with whatever I got left. The next two pension pay is already committed to a Birthday and Christmas. You could be right Alez, there has been some reports of either CPU or board problems wit 2990WX. If the final outcome in my case is the Board than I will try an ASUS Board next. Currently it is an Asrock X399 Taichi. BTW the PSU was a Corsair 850X RX that has been in service for years 24/7. I am aware that it looses efficiency each year especially when it is running 24/7.

Crunch away Pete. Doesn't matter whether it's multi million or a single point, everything helps and everyone is welcome. I'd love a couple of new GPU's but can't because I need the cash for a new Kart frame before next year's racing and at least one engine complete rebuild before season starts ( might be both current engines and a new gen engine ) . Unfortunately there's always too many toys we want and never enough cash to get them all. Sometimes life suxs

I am feeling your pain Pete but, as Alez says, we can only do what we can do given all the other little factors such as (a) life, (b) money, (c) time etc

The 2990WX machine will pull right at 400W, at the wall, with all threads engaged. That's running it at 3.3G instead of the stock 3.125G. At those numbers the CPU is using 250W. If you overclock above that the power on the CPU package starts climbing very quickly. At 3.8G it supposedly pulls 500W - that's just the CPU! You can't get that kind of speed from the CPU unless you have "special" cooling capability. You can't do it with air or a AIO water cooler.

If you add a GTX 1080Ti the system pulls 700W at the wall.

Be sure you connect 2 8 pin 12V cables to the MB. It needs them especially if you want to run a GPU.

Sorry you are having problems Pete!!

I have an ASUS board that will do that too.
 • Power off the computer, unplug the power cord.
 • Set the jumper that clears the RTC RAM in the CMOS in the position to do so, wait for 5-10 sec.
 • Re-set the jumper to normal.
 • Plug the power in again.
Was about to bin the board until I removed the jumper on a hunch and saw the board spring back to live. Presto: i7-3770 recommissioned

We should move up a position on the next update - probably.

Yup, we are 108th Now!

The LHC sprint doesn’t seem to have cost us too much WCG momentum. The next update will see us up another place. With another to come tomorrow. Astonishing!

Equally astonishing is that TSBT is in 9th place in the FB marathon for WCG in league 2. 2 points  I can't remember us ever scoring any points in FB for WCG.
We live in interesting times

107th Already! 8-)

And in more good news a whole bunch of Neumannium Labs members defected to Byteball earlier. This might be just temporary so they can get signed up for cryptodosh. But they’ve been gone long enough to more than half the teams credit in the last 24 hrs. Whatever the case it takes some heat off us.

Happy days!

I'm in the process of cleaning up the mess (Boinc instances) I created during the birthday challenge, so my output will be a little lower for a couple days as my machines need to qualify with WCG again. I should be back in full force in a couple days or so.

Cheers
