This guy seems to eat up a fair bit of resources I think? I've noticed it mainly on machines with a low core count. Any comments

Get more cores then it isn't a problem.
I looked at the Windows machine I tie into remotely. While "active" is was averaging 1.84%. A full thread is 8.33% on that machine so it is using less that 1/4 of a thread.
