Pirates crunch what ?
#61 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Continuing to hit Einstein for all it's worth. #67 in the world and both team and country moving on up.

since we lost POGS #1 status to overclockersUK and it's the next decent competition up for cpu's, I'm making an early start, both to build up the pendings and to try and claw back some of the losses to overclockers. I want UK #1 back

And there's another Einstein challenge coming up too. Now I like Einstein as much as the next pirate and I'll crunch it for the challenge, but that project is starting pop up in challenges as much as seti. Does it need the push? There's lots of other projects and I wonder if the admins would like a push for theirs. Megacruncher proposed TSBT issue a team challenge. I think we should consider one. A TSBT Anguillan Pirate challenge?
#64 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I'm all in favour of a TSBT challenge. Which project do you fancy ? Dream up a name and post it here http://www.dunadd.co.uk/seti/forum/view ... =18&t=1894 We can bring it to mega's attention and see if we can prod a few folk back into taking part in the comps
Don't mind another Einstein challenge as realistically I haven't taken my GPU's off since the last one. Been on a couple of month crusade to drive it up the leader board as I got sick of seeing it in the high 90's and having to emergency crunch it to save it from dropping out of the top 100.

Lately it's Universe, POGS, SRbase and Finds with Einstein on the GPU. Did revert to Seti but it just makes no sence to have 2 x 7970 making the credit of a core2duo. dDM as always is a slow burner with Rosetta and LHC when I can get them. Would like more Poem on the GPU but hens would like teeth. WCG on the droids and a dedicated wcg laptop.
Skywalker has finally passed me on POGS, might need an over the top response or I may just accept the best man won in the end.,

'accept' is the sad case of being in 1st place in 19 projects for the team and simply runninig out of cores I've had to make a sacrifice in order to try and run more Rossetta, LHC and WCG for the team. Either that or I need more cores

I know that you certainly do your bit for the team Alez, I just thought pogs was one of 'your' projects.
I'll just point out that if you took pogs back you'd be top in 20

It certainly is and I've not given up but I have put in 14.6 million credits and 296,832.32 hours and Skywalker has put in 15 million credits then I regard it as no shame as it is obviously one of his favorite projects too. His participation is great for the team and is a great achievement. All I need is more cores

OK, all that was a pile of $hite, challenge on and I will have #1 back in POGS by the end of play tomorrow. Guess a leopard doesn't change it's spots and mellowing in old age is also a steaming pile of doo doo

Tried. Only 2 out of ~1650 WUs didn't error on download in past 12 hours. Wish the project could figure it out.
#73 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I'll hold off trying asteroids until the success rate had improved somewhat.
Sounds like that might be a way off yet

They did have it fixed and now it's broken again. Thought since they had fixed it once this time would be quicker. Going to keep at it with LHC running anyway and sticking with poem and einstein for the gpu. Disabled GPU on Asteroids as it's slower than the cpu app so what's the point.

To get and keep Asteroids WUs to crunch, I've had to dedicate systems to it, bump up the cache to 10+ days and give it a little coaxing with a few (ok a lot) of project updates until I got them primed. Once you get over the fact that 99% of them will fail on download and just let it go, you will get work.

Only a few Asteroids WUs trickling from the server for a while so I guess I'll starting working on WCG and build some pending before this month's challenge.

Leiden, POGS and Burp challenges. Which are we going to attack? We could put Leiden in or at least near the top 10 in FB, but work is limited on that project right now. Maybe they'll add more WUs by the time the challenge starts. POGS is in 10th with a fair amount of distance to 9th. BURP is doesn't get much attention and we could probably put it in the FB top 10. Thoughts?
#78 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I was getting ready to go for Leiden but I hadn't realised that pogs and burp overlap.
burp is only a 4 day effort compared to a week for the other 2, I'm game for any to be honest.
I'll probably move a couple of my droids onto pogs anyway.

I'm hitting Rosetta just now. Let me know which one to go for and I will try and join in.

Anyone know anything about BURP? Does it run like a regular CPU project or is it different in any way, like Yafu, or run in a VM?

Actually, I say let's give Leiden the pirate treatment. I think Dirk is looking forward to it since the project is hosted in his home town of Leiden. And he is a pirate. He's over yonder trying to get to know all those British Virgins :pirate:
#82 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Looks like leiden might be another one that's over before its started.
We might have to wait and see if any work becomes available.

#83 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Any suggestions on Formula BOINC projects to beat on? I know where trying defend a 1st in YAFU and we're winding up for a round on NFS. Any projects that look like low hanging fruit we could blitz?
#84 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
whatever you fancy and I will help out. Should be getting my Yafu output up a bit thanks to the config file. We could probabily grab some points on burp, except for me that is, as burp on windows doesn't validate with linux and all my nvidias are linux. We could also gain some points on CSG if we wanted to kick the german team you took yafu from some more
dDM could be another contender.
What's your thoughts ?

I think CSG is a good target. Or Sztaki Desktop Grid which pays better on Linux. Heck, I'll setup linux systems USB sticks to run stuff. I would love to catch a project like CAS, EDGeS, Lattice with work and blitz it too. Those projects don't have terribly high total credits.
#86 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Sztaki Desktop Grid is one I need to run some more of and is light on resources so could get a bunch of old systems running it to. CSG has a comp in a few weeks as well. Might spend a little less resources on normal comps to prioritise formula boinc and 1st in the country. This will defo be our best ever Formula boinc finish, wish some more joined in. We need some new recruits ....
For USB installs I use pendrive linux
Lubuntu is a good choice as it's small but uses all the repos for ubuntu so easy to set up and run. Most of my systems are almost there, just a few more to go then they will all be on lubuntu.
Finally got some Yafu credit flowing in which should help build us a cushion.

#87 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I'm good with hitting CSG for the team challenge and Formula BOINC. Wait for the NFS challenge to end and hit CSG? In the mean time, I was going to continue switching over to NSF, crunch, then bunker when it's time. I'll stay with Yafu on a couple systems until it's time to setup and bunker NFS on those.
We're over 300K ahead of meisterkuehler.de Team on YAFU and I figured they would peel away from the pursuit by now and go back to previous crunching levels this past month but Egon Olsen is still pushing on. Think we could ask a favor of the BlackOps gang and arrange a power failure on his street? Ya know, just a nudge. 8)

My Yafu output is continueing to rise so between the two of us he's a bug on the windshield. Going to stay on Yafu for a few days then switch to nfs for challenge. After lets see where we are and then hit CSG if all else safe. I like the idea of Sztaki Desktop Grid for an extra smash and grab to though. dDM or POGS ( if they have any work ) are options too.
