Pirates crunch what ?
#1 Pirates crunch what ?
Since there are no comps on at the moment I will be trying to push Rosetta and Einstein both for island and team. Feel free to help out or to suggest other options for our attention as they are required.

I'm currently split over:
Rosetta - for the team and island
Beal - just want to get some more credit on the board
Numberfields - trying to upgrade my badge
Plus whatever the droids are grinding away at

Aye, since the demise or otherwise of nativeboinc stats my droids have pretty much been left to pogs and enigma.

I've got two that I swap projects on the rest I just leave to crunch away. Seems to work :)
What I have noticed is they are excellent to rack up WUPROP hours, just a shame they only work on certain projects!
I'm a bit gutted they pulled the prime grid project, used to generate decent credit

The hours do indeed rack up.
for me my top three are
pogs - 140,763.43 hrs which is some kind of purple badge
boincsimap - 27,506.23 hrs a green badge that makes my eye go funny
Enigma@Home - 21,978.82 hrs the first of my 5 projects at pink badge status
Easy to see which have android apps

Never let it be said I'm not a team pirate. I just finished my biggest day ever though, 3.7 million.
#7 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Wow, 3.7 Million! :wav:
#8 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
That's a serious chunk of crunch You will soon be up to 9 digits at that rate .
Remember there are no orders here, just what we want to crunch. Don't go all out, simply what you want.

I'm still leaving some on Collatz to get my numbers up. I enjoy crunching for challenges and team goals too.
#10 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Gaining places in Rosetta nicely Need to get home and get Collatz sorted out. Something wrong for sure, making less than 1 million a day.....

#11 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Are we still supposed to be on solo or are the other units better paying now?
#12 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
The units are all solo. They are exactly the same units just at 4 different sizes. Of course that means that they are now 4 more types to get a badge on wuprop. They are also 4 different application names in your collatz directory, so you will have to copy the contents of your solo optimisation and paste it into each of the 4 new types config files.
They all pay the same proportional to there size, though with a 7970 it would be pointless running micro as you would probably waste an hour a day on uploading downloading
The four different types are all enabled by default. Change your collatz options in your account to opt out of a certain type.

That's 7 places we've gained in Rosetta so far.... not to shabby at all. 40 places gained in Cosmology takes that into the top 100. Einstein coming along nicely too, with the Team total heading towards 9 figures.

#15 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
7 places!? That's a pretty respectable improvement chaps
Bit of a shame they don't have Rosetta badges or rosettes even
All we need now is to recruit someone who crunches seti and our move toward world domination would be on coming along nicely

#16 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I've managed to join ibercivis which actually has some work as well, so I'm beavering away on getting us into the top 100 on that as well. Only 17 places to go
Another place gained in Rosetta and we have jumped straight into 23rd on QoS

#17 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I've tried to focus a little more on Rosetta. Let's see if it's enough to keep us moving up. I'm also trying to get some SETI tasks running (CPU), but I'll be darned if I can get WUs. Going to try to get a slower GPU going on it as soon as it's clear of current task. I have a soft spot for SETI. It was the original I started with before BOINC. 44,943 classic SETI credits.
#18 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I to started with Seti back when we partied like it was 1999 but as for the soft spot..... I find hard core Seti crunchers who crunch Seti and nothing else to be a bit too holier than thou for my taste. I find it best to bite my tongue and stay off the Seti message boards at times. I have an old laptop running nothing but WCG and two slow GPU's that are permanent on Seti now. Slowly, slowly gaining ground there.
No idea what my classic credit amount was, but I do know that I managed 35,333 hours of work.

Well I had not looked to see what it was going to take to go from the 160's to in the top 100 SETI countries. 2 mil to 15 mil is quite a long way with the credit SETI gives. Perhaps effort best spent elsewhere. Sorry SETI
#20 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Oh yeah, Seti is a very , very long term goal. Baby steps..... We are going well in others and any suggestions for a week long push etc. are welcome. What we do is up to us

#21 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
LHC just came back up. We're 105 on that project and less than 30,000 credits would put us in the top 100. Getting WU might be tough though. They are getting downloaded as soon as they're available.Or I'm open to focus on a project for a week.
#22 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
LHC is always up and down Did manage to grab some units to, but they were not replaced as I crunched them. I should be home tomorrow so will be able to switch projects if we are picking some new ones.

I note we have managed to grab a place in LHC all the same and we are gaining on Seti a place or two per week. Slowly. slowly, catchy monkey

#24 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
LHC up to 102 now. Rosetta up 13 places to 134. Ibercivis coming along nicely as well and we have even gained a place in Seti
Shall we continue as is for a little while longer or do we have a suggestion for a different cpu project push for this week ?
Oh and Seti still not exporting any individual stats

#25 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
What are our goals? I've been focusing on some projects to get them in the top 99. I'm up for a push on something specific though.
#26 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
We have to decide our goals between ourselves.
My personal goals have been to get Anguilla as high up the country list as possible whilst trying to get as many projects within the top 100 as is reasonably possible whilst at the same time matching the team goals, hence the push on Rosetta, LHC and Einstein which have all been a case of good for both.
We also will have personal goals and favorite projects ( POGS and FM@H for me ) and of course the competitions to take part in. At the same time though, I think we should also have other challenges and fun amongst ourselves ( choose a project for a week, out-crunch each other, get to #1 in team, country etc. etc. ) otherwise we simply become slaves to chasing numbers and the fun goes out of it. And of course as pirates , rules don't apply so ultimately we can do as we want, there is no king here, only a loose pirates parliament we do this because we want to, not because we are told to .

I'd say we are doing okay just now and to keep going as we are.
Once I've got a few more hours into numberfields I'll drop that and focus a bit more on Rosetta. It would be nice to get it a bit closer to 100.
We could do with some kind of random project picker device/software, would be good to have a project of the week.

#29 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
How about we rotate through the ranks and each week one pirate chooses the project to focus on? What everyone wants to put in is up to them, but in the spirit of supporting team and country, a pact to make a descent effort. It's bragging rights for the top cruncher. Order to start with first pirate, then next to join the hoard.
On a side note, we need to recruit more privateers. So much bounty for the taking.
Oh, I put my nvidia gpu back on seti. It was torture watching it try to crunch the large collatz wu's.

This sounds like a reasonable plan, I'm up for trying it to see how we get on. We can always tweak the idea if we don't like how its working.scole250 wrote:How about we rotate through the ranks and each week one pirate chooses the project to focus on? With my limited fleet I can't see me gaining bragging rights to often though

I disabled large tasks in my account settings as it was crashing my systems. Everything runs fine up to and including the solo.scole250 wrote:Oh, I put my nvidia gpu back on seti. It was torture watching it try to crunch the large collatz wu's.

LHC Classic should be 99th tomorrow and Test4Theory should be an easy top 100 soon. I'm going to leave a couple cores on that for a while. When they publish a new update to the standard model, I can take pride that I helped, right? Still pushing Rosetta too and adding a little to a couple others. And Collatz for overall credit.

So what we up to this week ? We could hit Rosetta for a bit , LHC is down so that's a non starter or we could revisit the need for speed, put a crack on for that for a week or so and grab first place in the UK Couple of days would do it and a few more to build a cushion or we could do something completely different.

#40 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
LHC is back up and I had a couple systems waiting for it, so I figure I'll let a couple cores on those systems stay on LHC as long as the work lasts. Never know when they'll run out again. WCG sneeked a few extra WUs on a couple systems and trying to finish those off. Other than that, I'll push Rosetta. Of course, I'm game for an all out push on one of them. I did put one smaller gpu on Einstein, just to help keep the numbers on up it {that and I'm so close to getting a sliver star on wuprop and an Einstein app is the closest).
#41 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
I've still got some NFS units to run and I'm now running some LHC
I could practise some more config writting and go for a three way split with Rosetta, maybe

If any of you two have a core of more free, then consider giving me a hand grabbing UK #1 on Universe@Home see here http://www.dunadd.co.uk/seti/forum/view ... 154&t=2363
Seems to be one of the few new projects on BOINC that actually means to run for more than the attention span of a (G)nat. ( Scottish independence election references can be giggled at )

If I ever get to the end of them I'll have a look at Universe@home, although you'll probably have managed to get us to the top by then

#44 Re: Pirates crunch what ?
Since silver asked the question in the #1 in the uk thread what to go for as other projects, though I would reply here as there are very few of us that chase this anyway ie us pirates really. Bamstats list for TSBT is here http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/ ... rojectList
There are a few in #2 that we could chase. I have been on ddm for a long time, cas etc.
I would suggest that we shore up a lead on Universe and the three of us chase convector back into #1 then decide after that. Of course this is only a suggestion. I'm also doing more WCG as per Mega's suggestion.

Happy to keep on Universe, are we happy with LHC or do we need to add some more credit to it before moving?
I'll have a look at convector tonight.

Doesn't matter whether I am happy or not, I'm not your boss
LHC is a long term issue I think. Safe for just now I guess, one we can keep jumping back to when we want. Run it for as long as you want. I will go back to it in a bit.
CAS is another project where we are just in 2nd place, won't take much to regain #1 (less than 10 k ) in that one either.
I would suggest
Universe, Convector, Cas and WCG. Androids chugging away on Enigma and skynet POGS. A bit of work every now and again on Einstein with the GPU as it's still our lowest GPU project or Poem if you can get the elusive GPU units there Rarer than a haggis skin coat
