This is the problem we have been having for quite a while now Pete. I honestly don't know what the answer is or why we seem to have so few team members active on the forum. We seem to have more visits from members of other teams who thankfully seem to be keeping the site alive. You ask if you are wasting your time, I honestly don't know how to answer.
I am well aware how disheartening it is to keep making posts and feel like nobody ever reads them. However , as you also point out, if people don't post then what is the point of the forum ? I honestly don't know the answer. I have tried having the forum wide open to encourage people to post with no result. I have tried locking the forum down, so people have to log in and hopefully feel free to post as it is far more private. Again, seems no change.
I've tried forum games, forum for more serious discussion of tech, politics etc. Nada.
To be honest again, i don't know where we go from here.
All I can say Pete, is that I for one, appreciate your efforts to keep the site alive.
I'm also open to any suggestions from anyone on what they would like to see or what should change.

The problem goes back to the beginning. There have never been more than a handful of active members on the successive fora of Scotland's Seti or TSBT at any one time.
Basically it's only the rabidly competitive crunchers who can be bothered to log in & join the merry banter. The long-tem stalwart back-ground crunchers just quietly get on with it. Which is fine but a bit dispiriting for those of us trying to generate a party atmosphere.
I'm not sure that there is that much to be done. From time to time we used to have competitions with real prizes (alcohol or book-tokens) which drew in more than the usual suspects but only while the comp lasted.
On the plus side we are still going and apart from a few months hiatus after SETI classic folded, have been for 20 years. All we can do is to keep going, to try new, or indeed old, things & to not be too bothered if they don't work out & keep going regardless.

I think I’ve actually done your psych evaluation - just keeping my hand in post-retirement.

But the more pathologically competitive the better, as far as I’m concerned. A wee team needs a few bampots (if you’ll forgive the technical jargon) if it’s going to get anywhere. :-)
