3 days until it starts. Get those short term goals done and get ready to hit this one!
#3 Re: 15/3-20/3 goofing around - GoofyxGrid@Home CPU
For once I'm ready before the start. My short term goal is actually on Goofy CPU and hopefully less than 2 days. Once I cross the finish line I'll see how it runs if I bring up the rest of the threads.

Ciao indeed.scole of TSBT wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 10:15 pm And Ivan has joined us for this challenge! Ciao, welcome to the team.
I hope a few more, actually a lot more, of TSBT members join the project and crunch for the team challenge and post how we are doing. Or just post a hi, so we know people actually read this er info on the forum ?
Above all, I at least hope we beat our usual rivals ( you know who you are ) or at least run them close.

Where to this time? You need to post pics of the places you travel to, if you are permitted. Even if it's a platform in the middle of the North Sea.

I thought I'd give this one a go but I don't have an accounts and it's not allowing new ones.
I'll just have to watch from the side lines. Good luck.

The server is pretty busy. Maybe another try might work.
#10 Re: 15/3-20/3 goofing around - GoofyxGrid@Home CPU
We could definitely use the help. SUSA might be loading up ... it isn't a given yet but things are perking behind the scenesMegacruncher wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 12:35 am I thought I'd give this one a go but I don't have an accounts and it's not allowing new ones.

If Mumps decides to light em up then he will blow me away even if he is limited by Linux. Cineon_lut may show up and depending on how much of his fleet he spins up he will more than cover either Pete or myself. That leaves Scole and Alez having to handle everyone else. This "might" turn out to be a fun one ... we won't really know till the horn sounds.
Scole and I both did a little bit of taunting on the SUSA forums
BTW, the reason the server is slow is they are loading up bunches of WU - always a good thing before a challenge.

From personal experience:Dirk Broer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 2:28 amAs I know GoofyxGrid@Home CPU you're not exactly limited by Linux. According to Goofyx -the man himself, yuk- it is an advantage instead, 64-bit Linux even more so.
Win64 --> 3X faster than Linux64 8-10X faster than Win32
Linux64 --> 3X faster than Win32
Win32 --> faster than a abacus or slide rule (maybe)
Run times on same computers:
Win64 4.5-5 minutes
Linux64 15 minutes
Win32 35-45 minutes

In order to run just the 64 bit version, you must put this line in your cc_config.xml BEFORE you attached to the project...
<no_alt_platform>1</no_alt_platform>
...then restart the Boinc Client.
If you've already attached to the project...
-detach from the project
-the add the no_alt_platform directive to the cc_config.xml
-then restart the Boinc Client
-attach to the project
The no_alt_platform directive will prevent you from getting work on other projects which only run 32-bit apps so when you are done running goofyx cpu, set the no_alt_plaform value to 0 and restart boinc

For some reason the no_alt_platform keeps you from pulling work on most GPU projects even though they all have 64 bit apps for GPU. At least that is what I've been told.
You MUST stop/restart BOINC for that command to be picked up.

Norway, brand new jack up rig. Much, much nicer than the last one. The internet so far is blinding fast as well
Trust me, you'd all get bored very quickly .... although there is the pic of a horse, ratchet strapped to the bed of a pickup truck, driving through the center of tripoli in libya , or maybe the monkeys begging for pringles in Angolascole of TSBT wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 12:31 am You need to post pics of the places you travel to, if you are permitted. Few more hours until kick off.
Megacruncher, did you try to join again ? Project was struggling with validator issues and generating units for the challenge.

Well the SUSA gang came out in force. They are a little over 2.7 mil ahead and slowing gain more of a lead. There are still over 170k WUs waiting to be validated though and who knows who those belong to.

EDIT: Rats! We're starting to slip.

Part of that gain was my pendings getting processed so I've been gaining on Mumps. Unfortunately, I'm just about out and he will start pulling away from me again.
#21 Re: 15/3-20/3 goofing around - GoofyxGrid@Home CPU
Maybe not, I'm being swamped but then again wouldn't be as much fun without a good taunting
Thanks to Ivan for crunching away on this. If you're lurking say hi

Megacruncher, are you sure you don't want to try this again? We could sure use your help. Be sure to make the changes so your system only runs the 64 bit version though. Here are the instructions...https://tsbt.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php? ... 221#p61203
The only problem is it will dump any 32 bit app WUs on your system including some WCG and some GPU WUs. The Boinc police will look the other way though. I promise.

And how could I have forgotten Andrew! Where are you lad?
Be sure to read the post about running the 64 bit version. It's like 4-5 times faster than 32 bit version.

Well the SUSA gang are pulling away from us pretty fast so I guess there's no point holding on to these any longer. I'm referring to WUs you children! Maybe they'll make a dent until reinforcements arrive.
#29 Re: 15/3-20/3 goofing around - GoofyxGrid@Home CPU
Then I'll just turn mine loose too. Kidding, I'm real time. Nice show on the bunker scole. You'll have to pass that technique along at a future date.scole of TSBT wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 12:43 am Well the SUSA gang are pulling away from us pretty fast so I guess there's no point holding on to these any longer. From Goofyx - Tonight I will moved ssd drive from project to new computer because acctuall hardware can't manage so much work to workout.

Seems the challenge is just stressing the server too much. Much kudos for actually swapping out a server during the challenge to try and keep up. Might be wise to grab your tasks and then set network off until work completed if you can.

At the half way stage we are holding a very comfortable 2nd place and looking very respectable provided SUSA don't drop any MOAB bunkers on us .
Way to go guys

Goofyx has set up a new server to try and keep up with the battering we are giving the project. Well done that man.
Update #3
Project is on new hardware with 2xSSD, 32GB ram, cpu i7-7700 with SPC145 cooling system, PSU Vero L2
SSD 1 is sytem and database, on the second SSD I will set up download/upload folder from project or whole project folder

Nay. I only had 181 clients to upload and thankfully they're all done. Twas a busy day Friday. If I had to upload one more client this challenge I would have pulled out what little hair I have left.

#50 Re: 15/3-20/3 goofing around - GoofyxGrid@Home CPU
Don't think Goofyx quite realised what the full force of all the SUSA guys and girls coming out to play would entail. Can't say we haven't played an important part in the destruction either I'm sure it will be a learning curve and Goofyx will know to have a lot more units ready for the next challenge. Still, it's been a lot more fun than any of the recent challenges. Next time we'll get them
