#4 Re: Happy New Year! [TSBT NOT DEAD + AN EXPLANATION + APOLOGY]
Of course the elephant in the 2025 room was that things had changed a little at the end of 2024.
TSBT had been caught tweaking our benchmarks in a SiDock sprint in Formula BOINC. Now, such behaviour is neither uncommon nor is it against the rules (there are no rules!). Also crucially our gamesmanship did not harm the science: every single WU we returned was valid and useful - they just each claimed a frankly silly amount of credit.
We possibly could have brazened the situation out but in the end, out of deference to Tim and Sebastien we bailed out of FB. We had had a good run.
Unfortunately this has left us a little directionless and somewhat silent.
It doesn’t help that because of security concerns the most active members of TSBT had effectively retreated into a digital bunker and were not often posting here.
There are still a few of us beavering away post-disgrace.
I for one am doing my utmost to add to humanity’s store of prime numbers and also supporting various WCG projects.
Finally,
I’m sorry we got caught gaming FB.
I’m sorry we neglected this forum.
I promise to be more active here.
I’m grateful to all of you still crunching for us despite everything!
