First I've heard of it!
It's entirely plausible the there's a cover up if the Russians are involved.
I'll do some reading I think

I doubt that it's fake news - the tone is way too measured and non-sensational. Just rather minor news possibly?
The BBC haven't covered it but there is some coverage in The Telegraph & the Guardian & Reuters give it a mention.
It's obviously not another Chernobyl or even a Three Mile Island & you wouldn't expect the Russians or Kazaks to be upfront about anything.
Maybe Alex Salmond will cover in in his first broadcast for Russia Today? Or maybe not.
