This sounds a little mad but wondered if anybody had a suggestion for a manufacturer of a ultra high end laptop that will crunch.

ideally no bigger than 15" screen - but with something like a 1070 or 1080 video card.

The best spec I can get hold of.
I was looking at Eurocom.com / PC specialist / ROG or Alienware.
Is there a better option ?

I wish I had some advice for you but I'm a desktop and server owner. If there's not broad enough experience and advice for high end/gaming laptop and crunching , there some other Boinc teams that are hardware based, have active forums and might have more info. Take a peak at the HardOCP, Overclockers, AnandTech forums. Just don't forget your way home :-)

There is a guy named Ste\/e that is on the team BlackOps. I know he buys very high end laptops and he can crunch full bore on them. He has had a couple of them and swears by them. I'd suggest contacting ste\/e on that team's website.

I've crunched on a bunch of different laptops over the years and I always have my Panasonic CF-53 with me where ever I go in the world.
If you are going for very high end, I presume you need it for other reason rather than just crunching, as a high end laptop is considerably more expensive than a high end desk top. You will definitely be looking at a gaming spec and regardless of CPU / GPU combo, the system will always be a compromise as heat production / dispersal is always the limiting factor on any laptop.
ROG and Alienware are pretty much the standard for gaming laptops.

You really need to consider what you actually need the laptop for as opposed to simply crunching as regardless of spec, a laptop will never match the equivalent desktop as you will end up throttling GPU and using less CPU cores simply to stop the laptop frying. Obviously this can be overcome if you are using it as a dedicated cruncher with extra cooling etc, not so easy if you use it away from home / office etc.

On my, not particularly high spec, CF-53 I rarely use more than two cores, at most 3 for short periods as otherwise the system lags ( pain when you're supposed to be working ) and gets hot enough that it can go nowhere near your ' lap '

To scole of TSBT - will get the necessary jabs and wander over to the other forums for a peek. I live in Scotland but spend a lot of time in the Caribbean, so definitely consider TSBT+AP home.

To Bryan - Thanks - this "Ste\/e" sounds like a good point of reference and maybe just who I am after for some info - will let you know how I go.

To Alez - Ahh Haarrgghh - like you, I spend a lot of time away from home with dubious internet access from my personal laptop, I use my old laptop at home as a PC for crunching, admin, and research / surfing . Whilst away, I go for 3 months at a time - but based in the same place. It would do throttled crunching, admin and act as a graphics / media player and sit on a cooler plate
I'll see what Ste\/e says. I am fortunate in that I have an extensive doubloon budget, (but not limitless) and may well end up with a top spec'ed 15" Aleinware / ROG as it still has to be a portable, even for a plum warmer!

To those above and a few others who regularly contribute... Thanks for your posts. I crunch for the team when I can in various crunchathons.
Much appreciate the effort, interest and time you put into participating in the forum and the thorough, competent advice given freely.
I might not be a massive participator in the forum, but I read posts regularly and feel as if I am included and can have my say.

With Best Regards..

BTW, the Ste\/e I mentioned is the top producer in BOINCdom. Both before and after BitCoin Utopia.

EDIT: that doesn't mean he is an expert on laptops it just means he'll be easy to find.
