As the title intails what is the best use for the team with the RTX 2080 i currently am running SETI?

That certainly isn't it :lol: But then again, I don't do Seti unless I absolutely positively have no other choice :roll:

It will run collatz nicely. To maximize your credit, you can use an app_config.xml file and collatz_sieve_1.30_windows_x86_64__opencl_nvidia_gpu.config file with custom settings if you are up for it. We'll help.

That is an excellent card for Collatz!!

There is a config file that Collatz installs in your project directory. There are some settings you want to paste into that file and it really wakes up the card and it does a fantastic job.

Added to which, Collatz will give your personal points tally a very healthy boost.

As a wise man recently said, we'll get your GPU running much hotter than that !!

Not sure about Windows but in Linux you use a text editor to put optimising parameters into a file called : /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz/collatz_sieve_1.40_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__opencl_nvidia.config

These are the parameters I use for a GTX1660ti so I suggest you try them until someone posts something better for your higher-spec card. Boinc will start to use the parameters as soon as the currently-executing work-unit finishes. Useful to know what sorts of times you get before and after

Code: Select all

verbose=1
kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=9
lut_size=17
sieve_size=30
cache_sieve=1
sleep=1

I found the files the only one config file for nvidia was a sieve_1.30_x86 file would that make a difference?

Windows works the same way. I'm not in a position to look at my Windows HDD right now, but there is a file in your Collatz project folder (thesonntags) named something like collatz_sieve_1.30_windows_x86_64_opencl_nvidia_gpu.config. Paste what David showed into that folder. Change the lut_size to 18 and then save the file.

The next WU that starts will wake up big time :shock:

BTW, you want to monitor the temperature of the card. I don't know what you are using, but MSI Afterburner is an excellent GPU controller. You can set clocks, power, and fan speed with it.

Cheers folks looks like that's it, Am using Afterburner already started collatz this morning and yes the temps did go up lol hit 64 degrees .
Will keep an eye on it now with the new configuration Cheers!

If you go to https://tsbt.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=59 and click the STATS Today label, you should see your totals growing rapidly.

I am assuming that you've joined the TSBT team? and exported stats? (Both these are done on your account page on Collatz website)

In the same folder, you will also want to create a file named app_config.xml, paste in this and either reload the configuration files or restart boinc...

Code: Select all

<app_config>
<project_max_concurrent>1</project_max_concurrent>
<app>
<name>collatz_sieve</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

BTW, you can play with any of the config settings by just changing them 1 at a time and then watch what happens to the computational time for the next WU that starts. On my 1080Tis I use the lut_size of 18 but you can change that to 17 and see if it takes longer to do a WU. On my 1080 card it slows down if I go above 17.

Nice - you are on the map. If you leave that page open in a browser tab, it will auto-update every 15mins. The three /hr etc figures will take some time to stabilise

Should earn you about 14-15M per day on Collatz alone. (Unless of course you interrupt it by playing games :lol: :lol: :lol: )

yes, WU = work unit

Boinc has a heap of its own terms. This time last year, I thought FB was Facebook :roll: ; it is, of course, Formula Boinc :P We actually need a decent glossary. Does one already exist or should I get something started?

Serious question this time ... does your software tell you the actual wattage used by the card when crunching Collatz? If so, pop it on here please and I'll post a Benchmark table for you https://tsbt.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=11229

Just used Gpu-z Average of 210w and top of 248w i flashed the bios on the card so it is overclocked with the limit increased to 120%.

Hope this helps

You could try to crunch for Einstein, Asteroids or Milkyway if I were you. With such firepower, you could bring a healthy contribution to those projects.

Not exactly down. GPUgrid doesn't yet have support for the Turing cards though.

I think Einstein and Milkyway do better on AMD cards (floating point). Not sure about Asteroids. Mind you, your card will get good scores anyhow

It will run PrimeGrid PPS Sieve also. There are a lot of sub-projects on PrimeGrid. You must be sure to select only the Proth Prime Search Sieve (PPS-Sieve) for NVIDIA GPU/CUDA though in order to prevent other sub-projects or CPU WUs from running. There are several PrimeGrid sub-projects that will run on a GTX 2080 but PPS Sieve pays the best by far.

Not with all Radeons. I hate to see that only a handful of GPUs is supported. To top it up, expensive GPUs.

Basically all VEGA and NAVI cards are supported, and some later models GCN -that is, under Linux.
Under Windows all GCN and even Terascale architecture still works. It is just that HD 3000 and older will not function, and that it is hard to get HD 4000 cards to work.
