OK Gregg, I've put 3 GPUs on Do You Feel Lucky? (Genefer Extreme). After I have a decent badge, I'll switch to CPUs and run the Sierpiński apps. Can't run both at the same time until it cools off more.

Hi Gregg,
More than happy to give you a game of chess.
Can we do it via Boinc? I don't think so: although I'm happy to be corrected. :?
Otherwise I'm on chess.com as Megacruncher. PM me if you want to set up a game. :-)

Very impressive, Sir. Well done.

Hope you stay on it for next 7 days as the WCG 15th Birthday Challenge starts at midnight tonight. I'll be dropping bunkers just as soon as the daily update finishes (usually about 30-40 mins later)

Do you know about the Collatz optimisations for various graphics cards? Gives approx 30% time reduction on high-end nVidia

This is what I ran on a Radeon VII...

In the app_config.xml, I used this...

Code: Select all

<app_config>
<app>
<name>collatz_sieve</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>
On Win64, this config must go in filename collatz_sieve_1.30_windows_x86_64__opencl_ati_gpu.config (in project folder)
On Linux, this config must go in the empty file with the appropriate filename. Should be easy to identify.

Code: Select all

verbose=1
kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=8
lut_size=17
sleep=1
reduce_cpu=0
sieve_size=30
The Boinc client must be restarted after those files are changed. And if it does work, watch those GPU temps. It makes a big difference.

I set up a thread for the PrimeGrid challenge. As for recruiting members, I too old and grumpy to be any good at recruiting members but if you have ideas, go for it. The members of the other UK teams are pretty loyal to their teams. I don't think there would be a very good response asking other teams to merge with us but you are welcome to see if there are individuals on UK teams, other teams or unaffiliated crunchers who wish to join TSBT.

a very good question, Sir

We do have a lot of good stats available so that you can see the effect of trying various hardware running various apps.

I realise that not everyone is into team challenges but we do also have a fun head-to-head challenge if a couple of people fancy pitting themselves against each other for a few days. This only works if you are part of TSBT team
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

I can't wait to see the results when those WU start finishing Gregg :dance:

I'm running the GFN 21s. I'm wondering if I should switch to the longer WU on the GTX 1080Ti since they have a higher bonus. Anyone know how long they take on a 1080Ti. They're taking 33k seconds on the 21s. I'm having to run at stock speed due to heat.

I found that my Intel servers running at 2.6G do much better than my 3G 2990WX machines. I guess since the 2990WX doesn't have direct memory access on half the cores it slows things up. I might try running the AMDs with 2 WU at 16 cores and assigning the affinity so 1 WU uses only the cores w/ direct memory access and the 2nd WU uses the other cores.
