#1 Asteroids@Home sse2 vs. avx WUs

Not sure what the difference is between the 2 types of WUs but the avx WUs run much hotter than the sse2 WUs. When running all eight cores on a Xeon E3-1246, while running the sse2 WUs temps stay around 60C. While running the avx WUs temps jump to 70+C.

Could an app_info.xml file be used to limit the number of active/concurrent avx WUs run? Both avx and sse2 WUs are run by the same app, but I want to limit the number of active avx WUs to 4. Possible?

I don't think so Scole.
If you make up an app file with a random name, then get boinc manager to read your config files it'll flag up the unknown applications in the event log and also list the known apps. For asteroids it says the known application is 'period_search'
But it's not very easy to try when I can't get any work!

*=natively, you can probably run all Linux applications in emulation mode, depending on the capabilities of your CPU/GPU.
