Installed new power supply
Stable for three days

Those are the frustrating kind of problems! Hope that solves it Steve.

Random reboots are still better than dead motherboard/CPU. Got new motherboard cheap and now hunting for decent CPU.

What socket Hal?
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

It was Intel® Core™ i3-2100 on 1155. I didn't even use full potential of the rig. When I got my hands on it I was still trying to figure out how to cruch properly on this PC. Until I decided to replenish thermal paste on CPU. I dropped CPU on the socket when removing it and damaged pin(s). Tried to fix the socket to no avail. Motherboard powers up. Fan spins and immediately stops.
I got new motherboard shortly after that but I am still hunting for reasonably cheap processor. I had one ready to purchase but someone else was faster than me
I could give away the CPU if anyone is interested.

If you were in the US I'd send you a i7-3770.
BTW, the new PSU fixed the random and increasingly frequent reboots. Stable is good.

Good to hear you have it under control. Is your CPU always under 100% load?scole of TSBT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 10:25 pm If you were in the US I'd send you a i7-3770.

It's my office system now and runs other stuff but It runs at no less than 80% all the time. I haven't run a GPU app yet. Guess I need to test that before I declare victory.

I don't know where this question came from.
BTW I got my i7-4770 and test run with old Intel CPU cooler. Works fine but hits 92 degrees under full load

Stock intel cpu coolers won't keep an i7 cool, not if it's got turbo enabled and you run it wide open. You'll need something like a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO or better.

I had everything enabled
I wouldn't try overclocking unless I had better PSU. Anyway, new cooler is on the way (Arctic Freezer 7 Pro v2 Quiet CPU Air Cooler with 92mm Fan) with 125W TDP.

I almost binned a socket 1155 board and i7-3770 because I used the stock cooler and It couldn't cope. And I thought -at first- the board or the CPU had died on me.....scole of TSBT wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 9:37 pm Stock intel cpu coolers won't keep an i7 cool, not if it's got turbo enabled and you run it wide open. It looks like I am not the only one who tried to create vulcano inside PC.
Even with only 4 task running and extras turned off temperatures were hitting 75+ with Intel stock cooler.
I got proper cooler today and I am back in the game. Temps are around 52 degrees with all bells and whistles enabled in BIOS.

Congrats Hal ... looks like the problem is solved!

I ran a I7 - 3770K overclocked, flat out on all cores with stock cooler. The cooler detached from the board, CPU hit 105 degrees and survived. Asus Board is warped but still running a few years later. They are tough chips.
