It's 128 sec on mine.
I have slightly under clocked my card though and hence am actually getting 148 secs so nearly spot on David.

Go to
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz
and there should be a file called
collatz_sieve_1.30_windows_x86_64__opencl_nvidia_gpu.config
which should have the following in it
verbose=1
kernels_per_reduction=64
threads=8
lut_size=18
sleep=0
reduce_cpu=0
sieve_size=30
cache_sieve=1

You look to be doing about 5M to 6M points per hour at the moment. That's a handy number.

Try these for the gtx1080 unless someone suggests better
Code: Select all

kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=9
lut_size=17
sieve_size=30
cache_sieve=1
sleep=0

Gregg, do you know how to monitor the GPU temps and increase fan speed if needed? Running the optimized configurations will make them run hotter.

It should. I'm just over cautious and manually set fan to high rpm so it stays as cool as possible.Granowski wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 8:52 pmi always believed that fan speed is an automatical option, and it icreases if needed without manual action .scole of TSBT wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 8:32 pm Gregg, do you know how to monitor the GPU temps and increase fan speed if needed? I've been in the habit of limiting the power drawn & I notice barely any effect on run times. These are Linux commands which will save 10% of power on an RTX2080ti
Sorry I don't know Window equivalent
Code: Select all
sudo nvidia-smi -pm 1
sudo nvidia-smi -pl 225

I spent hours trying every set of 2080Ti settings on the web. The ones are for my card and others cards may like other ones more who knows.
I have had faster but then occasionally I see Compute Failures so backed off slightly until I was getting 100% passes.
For the 1080 I am not sure as I do not have one.

Yes indeed, very many very brave souls in underground movements across Europe in WW2.
Closer to home (for me as I born in Orkney) was the Shetland Bus which smuggled brave men and supplies on fishing boats across the North Sea to / from Occupied Norway.
Thank you for your continued support of TSBT and, yes of course, several of us support other teams at other times

The London Sinfonietta recording was a best-seller in the UK in the 1990s. I bought it then & listen to it often. I've not kept count but I doubt I can beat 500 times!
It's a beautiful piece of music Gregg. But very very very sad. Obviously I'm not able to understand the words but the grief & mourning in the music & singing is palpable.

There's a long time left until the end of FB 2020 but 3rd or 4th would be great. The BOINC Pentathlon sponsored by SETI.Germany starts in a week or so. There will be projects we will hit hard over a 2 week period, plus bunker time. Join us if you want to. It's a lot of fun, a lot of banter.
