#1 Seti CUDA

Post by Megacruncher »

The outage @ GPUGrid has forced me to look at other ways of using my GPU for Boinc. With Milkyway not quite cooked and Lattice a big flop that means either Seti or SetiBeta. The problem with Seti last time I fed it to a graphics card, a few months ago, was that the credit awarded was on a par with a GPU core in the same machine. This also was the case with SetiBeta a few weeks ago. Pisspoor but with GPUGrid crocked it's better than bugger all.

As it is I've been pleasantly surprised that it's not quite as bad as I feared. In what must be about 120 GPU hours since they ate the last of the GPUGrid rations my cards (4*260 and a lonely 280) have accumulated some 11K credits with another 9K or so pending. So in total that works out at about 4K per GPU. It's not great but it's not bad either.

One thing to look out for is the slow WU - 2-10 minutes is the average but some go on for hours. I don't think you get extra credit for then so anything longer than 20 minutes I just kill.
