Well done Scole, if I could actually manage to get any work from CSG I'd maybe manage an upgrade although not to that level for a looooooong time!

#312 Re: Shameless badges bragging thread
I got a double silver (20M) on Wildlife. CSG is also at 25M so I'm done with that project. It sure was nice of them to keep the credits very high during the challenge

Got a bronze on the new Yoyo Collatz app ... that's just 10k credits so no big deal other than a new one.

Pete, it only runs on 64bit linux on AMD/Intel and 64bit linux on ARM. Nearly all installs we've done on Rpi's are 32bit and won't run this app.McShane of TSBT wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2017 1:07 am Half your luck Bryan. I have not been able to get one Collatz on Yoyo. Run test apps ticked, collatz ticked. Message: No task available. You have reached the daily quota of 8 results. I now unticked all the other apps bar collatz and wait until tomorrow.

Pete, if they are nVidea they are easy to get to work with Linux, If they are AMD then I wash my hands ..... total nightmare.

It is not a total nightmare, it needs some serious planning:
- How old are your GPUs
- Which version of Linux are you planning to use
- Do you plan to use a APU/GPU combo
I have a Ubuntu 16.04 system running Xansons for Cod on the internal R3 of an Athlon 5350 AM1 APU, on the Open Source driver(!)
I have a Lubuntu 16.04 system running Seti@Home Beta on the internal Radeon HD 7660D of an A10-5700 FM2 APU, also on the Open Source driver(!)
The latter is actually a bit of a bummer, because till shortly -in it's A6-3500 FM1 incarnation- it ran far more projects (CAL++/Brook was still enabled). No longer so after the upgrade.
Simply said:
- You can't use Ati/AMD GPUs older than the HD 5000 series (or you must be prepared to run a stone-age kernel)
- With older cards (pre 'R' series) stick to Ubuntu versions below 16.04 or you can't crunch due to bad OpenCL support -and CAL++ support is gone. And do not forget to restart the boinc client in order to be able to use the GPU!
- When using Linux, only use GPUs from one vendor (Ati/AMD, Intel or nVidia) as installing a second driver will basically delete the first, unless you're prepared to do some real tinkering. They need to be of roughly the same capability and have to use the same driver too, as the applications only see more instances of the same card and -check your computers on any given BOINC project.
