Err.. I don't like to quibble (actually, I do  ) especially with the organiser but the comp closes at 22.00 on the 31st, so that should have said "with 46 hours to go". Or have the rules changed?

oops
My bad
For some reason I'd got it into my head it was midnight.
Just to avoid confusion yes it should have been 46 hours as the comp does indeed finish at 22:00 GMT on the 31st.
Those involved in this error will be taken outside and shot at dawn!

Okay, I checked and we are at 53,394+ so if everyone would kindly cease uploading for a few days, I'll throw a party and SHARE the whiskey. :P

Seriously, I like Cyclone Rangers chances, Seems that the majority have piled themselves up between 53400000 and 55000000.

Sorry Mike, I'm almost up to date now so no giant upload.

Yep, the two best looking guesses at the moment are:
S P A C E RCycloneRanger. . . 53,510,000
S P A C E RRavyDavy. . . . . . .53,700,000
Which makes the question: above or below 53,605,000? Too tight to call I think. :?

Of course, there could be 'unknown' uploads and will be the update 'intricacies' of BS to second guess yet. Will the first team update be before or after 10pm........

Four hours to go and the daily update shows the team on 53,564,562.95
credits.

Will the first 'partial' update go through in time for RavyDavy? Will it be the forty(ish) thousand he needs to grab the prize or has the canny CycloneRanger done just enough to secure the booze.

Stay tuned folks.

PS. Sorry, I'm in a strange mood cos it's a three day weekend for me. :)

WooHoo.

Thanks everyone - and it really was a pretty lucky guess.

I was on the edge of my seat until around 9:30pm - and then an update must have come through on Boincstats, which just pushed it further my way.

A big thanks to those who think up these competitions - as it puts a bit of fun and excitment into crunching and gives us a sense of community coming together.

FlyingFocRS has agreed to meet me in person to hand over the prize, instead of risking posting it, so a huge thanks to him, and I will be able to put a face to a name :)

Congratulations to RavyDavy and commiserations to CycloneRanger. It was a very close call in the end, especially considering how 'old' the guesses were.

Well done indeed

Ravy Davy

Glad I wasn't a million miles away this with time 53,456 - my last attempt was really bad and embarrassing

so what's the next competition ... put me down for a sponsor - no whiskey juice I'm afraid .. how about an iTunes voucher

Guessing a total seemed to be a lot better for competition than guessing a date. JMHO I think the 2 week deadline was also effective.

I'd agree with that, the date seems too easy to pin down with a little thought but we had quite a range (~1.5 million?) of guesses that all looked valid until very late in the compatition, definitely more interesting.

Glad you all liked the style of the competition.
It did seem to work very well.
Of course it could have been thrown astray if either a big farm had gone off or someone with a big farm had joined in the two week period.
But I suppose if something like that had happened we could have tweaked the end date to give everyone a fair chance again.
RavyDavy no problems, the prize which is half and half from myself and BusterGunn will be no problem to deliver and like you say always good to put a face to a name.
Thanks to everyone who entered and here's to the next one.
Mike
