Took 2 lightning strikes on the house within 1 hour. They were 3 feet from each other.
I lost the cable modem, my wireless router, a printer and a Q6700. So much for the surge supressor on that line.
I thought lightning didn't strike twice that close together. Only lost the printer on the first strike.
Cable modem, router and printer fixed. Now to tackle the Q6700. Hopefully its only the PS because the powerup never gets to CMOS.

That's pretty serious stuff there Buster. I'm surprised so little damage. I've seen equipment rooms that have been left as toast by direct hits.
Hopefully it's not too bad, but I fear you might find other equipment dies a bit earlier than expected now.
Good luck!

Hell's bells!
I'm glad to say we don't tend to get that sort of thing in Edinburgh. I hope you get it sorted soon and that your PSU shielded your MoBo.

Sounds nasty that. Rarely get any thunder and lightening here.
Is your equipment covered by insurance ? Surge protectors often also come with extra insurance.

Thanks guys. We have been getting more and more severe storms as the climate heats up. The Q6700 was toast. I removed the entire board and stuff from the chassis. The underside of the mobo was black. The RAM (4gb 800Mhz DDR2) is okay. The processor is okay. The rest is junk(including the HD and DVD). Now I have spare RAM and a Q6700 processor.
Just got back from my favorite PC store. New Q6700 being unboxed.
My sister ordered a semi complete rewire of the house with state of the art surge supression. She lost a TV(a nice 40inch flatscreen) and her printer also.
No insurance. They charge way to much for that kind of insurance. My grandkids inheritance just took a hit, thats all.

Any powerstrip I ever bought with claims about surge protection has invariably offered £xx,xxx worth of automatic equipment insurance. Maybe thats just a UK thing where lightning strikes aren't really part of the climate, yet.
Nevermind, between the four of them I inherited £100 and three watercolours of purely sentimental value from my grandparents, plus the odd moral value, and it didn't hold me back in life. :)
