It booted fine, just won't install Linux Mint if an old AMD card installed. More like a driver issue I think
The work around I did for the installation to work with the R9 was:
Boot from live USB to the screen where it gave you options to boot into.
Mint 19
Mint 19 compatibility mode
OEM mode
1.Here press "e" without the quotes to edit .... then find "quiet splash" without the quotes
2.Then add "nomodeset" without the quotes in front of quiet so it looks like this "nomodeset quiet splash" without the quotes
3.Press F10 to boot into Mint desktop .. proceed to install Mint 19
After the installation finish, if you reboot
Chances are you're gonna get the same error, we have to edit and update the grub.
When reboot, hold SHIFT after the Bios screen ... or tap SHIFT .. tap worked for me.
Repeat the steps 1-3 above to get into Mint desktop.
After get into the desktop
Open terminal and type
find "quiet splash" without the quotes
Then add "nomodeset" without the quotes in front of quiet so it looks like this "nomodeset quiet splash" without the quotes
Press CTRL+O and then ENTER to save. Hit CTRL+X to exit.
In the terminal type
Exit and reboot.
The only problem was, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get Boinc to recognize the R9. I gave up after a while and just bought a cheap Nvidia card.
