I don't know where the original thread went so I started another.

Nightlord, My computer is 100% again. He is what I did and I haven't got a clue as to what fixed it. I reloaded Windows Vista from scratch including formatting the HD. When the system came up, I still had the problem. This is without installing the Cuda drivers, Boinc or anything. I decided to do a normal maintenance on the machine. Cleaned the inside, air compressed the boards and stuff. I re-booted and it still was bad. Shut it off again and went around and reseated all the boards and memory. One of the memory sticks was in its slot but not fully seated. One of the clamps wasn 't engaged. Re-booted and the problem was gone.

I installed all the aforementioned, checking after each to see if the problem returned. It didn't.

I haven't got a clue as to what was wrong. I always thought the system wouldn't boot if memory was loose. Maybe it was detected but not all the pins were making contact. Who knows. Anyhoo, I'm processing at 100%.
Buster is my dog. Sadly, Buster is gone.

Sorry I thought the thread was getting a bit long and thematically rich so I started a whole new forum..

The underperforming PC is a wonderful thing. Taking everything out and putting it back again is always a good initial stategy.
