#1 Big Billion Bumper Bonanza

by Megacruncher
It's a comp much as you know it.
The challenge is to guess, to the hour, when TSBT will tick off our first billion. The prize will be a bottle of single malt whisky &
the rules are:
- The comp is open to any active member of TSBT.
All entries must be made by posting in this thread.
You have one guess but you can revise it as often as you wish until we pass 999 million.
We use Temujins excellent stats.
In the event of any dispute or ambiguity what I say goes.
To start the ball rolling here is the first guess:-

The guesses, with just over 33 million to go, so far are:
PinkPenguin 08:00 28th Dec
Reeltime 18.00 29th Dec
IanMBaker 01:00 30th Dec
FlyingfocRS 12:00hrs 30th Dec
Megacruncher 18:00hrs 30th Dec
Aardvark 03:00 0n 31st December (P.S no water in the whisky)
JockMacMad 18:00 2nd January [or has he changed his guess to the trifle?]

I'm really optimistic, plus I think JockMacMad has a new toy to play with.
He's certainly playing with something big & impressive. Which along with Merlyn's recovery, Lyall's awesome debut & my,comparatively inconsequential, return to adequacy, make a 2009 billion much more certain than it was looking a week or so back.
So I'm advancing my guess hugely, making the betting:
Nightlord ....................... 1200 27th Dec
Megacruncher ................ 1800 27th Dec
PinkPenguin ................... 0800 28th Dec
johnn/Airculpret ............. 0100 29th Dec

IanMBaker ..................... 0100 30th Dec

Round up (& revision) time:
- Aardvark ....................... 2000 25th Dec
Megacruncher ................ 1300 26th Dec
Nightlord ....................... 1200 27th Dec
Mr Thinhead ................... 2200 27th Dec
PinkPenguin ................... 0800 28th Dec
johnn/Airculpret ............. 0100 29th Dec
Reeltime ........................ 1800 29th Dec
IanMBaker ..................... 0100 30th Dec
FlyingfocRS .................... 1200 30th Dec
JockMacMad ................... 1800 2nd Jan
Despite jock's shock announcement about downing tools on the 23rd the fact remains that we are only 23.3 million short of our target and currently tucking away 5 million per day. Even if that halves after the 23rd then boxing day is a reasonable aspiration.

Hmmm, JockMacMad's planned dereliction of duty, has got me thinking I that need to ease back a little on my first guess. On the otherhand, we are motoring so fast now, I'll leave it for a day or so to see what pans out.
Now, if you really got your act together, you could fly back up, top up the key, plug it into the meter and fly back down to Mrs JMM's family without breaking sweat.....that, or employ a highly trained gang of white mice dressed in ninja suits to swap a newly topped up key at just the right time

Hmmm, JockMacMad's planned dereliction of duty,
Dinnae be sae sure laddie.

We had 8 inches of snow here last night (in Aberdeen), and it looks like it might be the same tonight. Snowing heavily at the moment.

Regardless of the feasability of JockMacMad's travel plans (and I'm sure we all wish him a safe & speedy journey back to Mrs JMM) his output is already dropping from nearly 1.9M yesterday to just under 1M today. All the same we racked up 4.6M today which, with 987M done, would extrapolate to 1B late on Xmas day. I'm going to assume some further drop off & go for a slightly earlier time on boxing day, leaving us with:
- Aardvark ....................... 2000 25th Dec
CycloneRanger ...............0000 26th Dec [as far as I can decipher!
]
JockMacMad ................... 0300 26th Dec
Megacruncher ................ 0900 26th Dec

johnn/Airculpret ............. 0100 29th Dec

Roughly half these guesses are insultingly pessimistic so get them revised now folks.

Yup. it's a tough call this one. We had the same snow yesterday, so if JMM is traveling (and this chart suggests he is:
JockMacMad's output), our output will be reduced in line with Willie's ideas.
However, maybe he will have a box running for a wee while longer?
Anyway, time for a revision:

Didn't Willie choose 0900 on 26th?
I did indeed. The last round-up introduced some, erm.., anomalies which I will try and sort out. Doubtless I will increase the confusion 10 fold.

If your guess isn't where you think it should be tell me and I'll do my best to fix it.
Whatever, I've given Mr Thinhead 0900 on the 26th and opted for the unacustomed role of team pessimist by shifting my guess to late on boxing day afternoon.
Although we are now just 9.4M short of the big one Jock's farm has switched off almost totally & I reckon that we will be reduced to a mere 3.5 million per day.

So make sure you've got Milkyway attached as a back-up & be prepared for this turning into a guess when Collatz gets back on-line comp.

Wow... I couldn't figure out why my new choice had become a subject of international diplomacy all of a sudden, but I see from a close reading of the scrolls what went wrong.
I am happy to concede 0900 if Willie wants to lay first claim. But if not I will stick with that.

I lost a power supply fan last night.
Managed to rig something this morning, but it sounded dreadful and more importantly, the psu was complaining like it was about to expire in flames (I've seen that only once before and it's frightening). So I'm one cruncher down on MW until I can get a big enough psu to replace it.
That and with JockMacMad's festive jaunt down South, it's time to move the guess again.

You'd only be too late if we had passed 999 million. As it is we are still 2.5 million short of our historic landmark.
With an hour of the day gone I think it's reasonable to assume that we will make the grade sometime in the second half of today.
Those guessing a time before lunch might want to think about grabbing one of the evening slots whilst they remain available.

Hi guys, hope you all had a great time yesterday and if you were traveling that you got to where you wanted to be safe and sound despite the weather.
It looks a tight call. Even 8-10 hours out, it's difficult to be certain, but I think there are three guesses that are close to being on the mark, starting with Willie, then Aardvark, followed by yours truly.
Out of those, it seems to me that Aardvark has the best chance of pulling it off.
However, it only needs one project to report some credits early and Willie will indulge himself in a bottle of malt: or if a project goes offline I may still snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
