MacDitch: 19 -> 26 March . . World Community Grid (UK Challenge)
... Ahem! I see the Brit Empire has done a bit of expanding lately. Are we including 'em all in the UK just to make things simpler and stop them arguing with each other ? :D

Ahh, if only we could. :)

This was intended as the UK Challenge discussed here, but BS does not yet allow you to set participant restrictions and so we've picked up a few... irregulars.

Actually, looking at it (didn't check the teams before) it would appear that we're the only UK team currently involved!!! Let's call it a warm up instead. :D

There are an awfy lot of them. :? Shouldn't we try and focus on particular ones? We need a system for deciding what we should do & then making sure that we all know about what we are working on @ any one time. If you want me to create a new forum 4 this PM me with your ideas. :)

There are, but only a few (2 at present) are active at any time. I've had a few ideas about a forum change so I'll PM when I get it straight in my head!

Yup let's do the Einstein challenge. We are languishing in 98th fo it and could be out of the top 100 in a couple of months if we are not careful.

New challenge appeared last night, so I've added it to the query section. It unfortunately overlaps with the SIMAP Scramble but I thought I'd offer it up...

Hmmmm there's only so much I can do with 8 cores & a toaster, I think I'll stick with Simap this month (yeh, Rosetta gets the heave for a week) :)

I tried to set it earlier to minimise the SIMAP overlap, but that was the earliest I could get it to accept! Oh well, one computer for each of Rosetta & SIMAP for me. :)

... Right! 1st of April... and we're the only team in the challenge (which is good, 'cos we win!)... At the moment I'm busy digging ferrets out of my broadband router (bl***y journalists!) so it may be a while before I can clear the cache of fur, teeth and claws and download some WUs...

Why does this project always make me think of Alan Price... or was it Georgie Fame.. ?

Now you're showing the grey hairs.

ROSETTA
George Fame & Alan Price

Well my little girl is a sweet little girl

but she does things make your eyebrows curl:
You let her loose on a Friday night

you know it's gonna end in a fight.
Rosetta drinks her whiskey neat

she gets in a fight and she might get beat:
So I go round on the Saturday night
and ask her if she feel allright.

Rosetta are you better
are you well
well
well
Rosetta are you better
are you well
well
well
well
well
well - well
well
well

When Friday comes she's fine again
so we go to a club where we got friends:
Knocked on the door but we couldn't get in

'cos the boss don't want no fuss.
So we went up town and drank around
and Rosie ended on the ground

So I took her home and I put her to bed

and you can guess what I said.

Enough nostalgia - for now.

The good news :) is that we have a challenger for the "Maxi the Minis" Rosetta thingey. The bad news  is that it is Team China, one of the big boys in this project who is going to utterly stuff us!

Hurrah! And with just over a day to go a miniscule greek team joins the fray conferring something like respectability on the challenge and affording us the comfort of a mediocre mid-table finish!

... Just as well, as I have so far managed to contribute a glorious 6 credits and I think they gave those to me out of pity given it was a "Compute Error" !

Okay, we ended a good second of three in our Rosetta challenge.

All hands to the Einstein pumps now (although I've got rather more Rosetta left to crunch than I had intended 400 or so to be imprecise  ) and lets see if we can improve on our current 4th place (of 8, so top half of table).

I hate to say it but changing (up) a place in the Einstein challenge looks ...unlikely, even with 4d14h to go.

3rd - 159,500 - BOINCstats
4th - 23,172 - The Scottish Boinc Team
5th - 16,388 - The Clangers

The SETI challenge is somewhat more promising, but it does only have 38hours left to run.

2nd - 913,649 - BOINC@Poland
3rd - 233,768 - SETIKAH@Home
4th - 216,158 - The Scottish Boinc Team
5th - 20,710 - Belarus

We came within 4K of stealing 3rd place from SETIKAH@Home before the final whistle blew. Still - good effort.

There are no upcoming challenges. We could set one. Maybe CPDN? Or possibly another go at Rosetta since the last one was underscribed due to the clash with SIMAP.
