I was just down in the basement doing the usual midnight check on the farm. I usually leave the door from the garden ajar to let the heat out. Halfway through the job I heard a rustle behind me. I turned round to see a small hedgehog shuffling into hiding under the table football table.
Trippy! I've never heard of a hedgehog coming into a house before.
As soon as I approached he did the spikey ball thing & it was a painful job getting him out into the garden again.

We had a squirrel wandering arond the kitchen one morning last week. Mrs T refused to go in until I removed it. So much for equality. It a fit and crafty looking wee bugger too.
And we have hedgehogs in the garden, not to mention rabbits too numerous to mention, that get in from the field next to Castle Thinhead.
Have you ever tried hedgehog flavoured crisps? The taste is nothing like the real thing.

Had I had my wits, a cleaver and a suitable recipe, about me, I suppose I could have slaughtered the unfortunate Erinaceid & prepared a novel breakfast for the family. I doubt however that they would have thanked me, especially my militantly vegetarian 10 year old son.
Are you really acquainted with the taste of hedgehog

or does your post lack a "reportedly" ? :)

According to the Daily Mail roast hedgehog was a great delicacy in antiquity...

... mind you I would tend to take anything the Daily Mail says with a pinch of salt... er, sorry, my only excuse is that I used to watch "It's a square world!" as a young and impressionable child.

Sorry to disappoint but I will have to confess that I did not actually taste the aforementioned hedgehogs. I left them in the oven too long and they got burnt.
And, hey, I'm not the only one who remembers Bentine time. That's cheered me up. If you liked Square World then you might like this:
