Mmm. :? I'm no so sure. Challenges & gauntlets go hand in glove surely?

But whatever I'm busy cooking some rosetta so that I can have some ready for the kick off.

As far as the Quantum challenge goes we are already crunching some big numbers for that -mainly down to steve- so we might as well enter it as even with no extra effort we'll do fairly well in it.

Enigma? Why not?

Oops down to 3rd. Still, no disgrace in being overtaken by Team China and we are pulling well clear of the seven teams behind us.

The Quantum Fire one starts at midmight. I'll set a couple of cores onto although I think we are relying on steve to carry the day really.

I see there are WCG and DNETC challenges coming up. We should do the latter but maybe avoid the former?

It ain't much I can do to help... my Linux boxes really don't like Rosetta (too many errors) so I have left them on Quantum / ViP and the rest is doing Rosetta. Team China doesn't look like an impossible target at the moment... we could try tweaking their tail a little... (if my calculation is correct it would need another 4-6 cores)... :D

I'm sure we'll all settle for your help with Quantum. We have established an early lead here which is gradually extending. :wav:

As regards Rosetta, Team China are indeed far from uncatchable. Certainly there is no chance of us doing worse than 3rd. :wav: again!

Just to repeat what I've posted elsewhere about the Boinc Pentathlon

The projects & timings announced so far are:

Einstein .......... 00:00 5th May to 00:00 10th May
Milkyway ........ 00:00 9th May to 00:00 14th May
Freehal .......... 00:00 10th May to 00:00 15th May

The enigma@home challange started 24hrs ago and so far we are a rather undistinguished 4th of 8. If anyone wants to join Swoopert & me we'd appreciate the company.

In all fairness, at the time of posting only 1 team had any score. Unfortunately, the workunits take a ridiculous amount of time (~24hours on my PentD!) so getting some points isn't a quick exrcise. :?

{EDIT} Update: Now sitting in a comfortable 2nd place! :) {/EDIT}

We are fifth now. I've joined up and got 1559 credits in the last half day on 2 PCs running part-time. I've put the whole farm on it now and think we can gain a bit more ground yet. The project pays well & reckon I can probably manage at least 10K per day. But we need more POETS !

Over the course of the day BOINC@Poland wrestled 4th back from us. At the time of typing and with 48 hours left to go we have edged ahead again & are exactly 713 points ahead of the poles. So a very marginal 1.5% lead and all to play for!

Approx 33.3 hours to go and we have narrowed the gap to just 92 points. Unfortunately, we are ahead and should be widening the gap.

Oh, and as a few people said yes and nobody said no I've entered us into the POEM month long challenge...

I think we are doomed to finish 5th for the POEM challenge. :( Our polish rivals are over 6K ahead of us and, unless someone has been holding back a huge upload, there is no way we call close the gap in just 1 hour.

Still nice effort everyone! We'll be back!

Yes for the DNETC challenge.

Well done for the others we seem to have established ourselves as stalwart middle order competitors. 4th or 5th is about par for the course and entirely respectable.

Well, we're doing POEM as a PotM this month so how about early August? Or do we need something earlier than that?

Sorry, it's been far too hot here (34+ degrees yesterday) to even think about going near the computer. It's down to an arctic(?) 26 degrees today so I can mange to get close enough to the computer to visit the site. :)
