Hello all

I thought I would introduce myself.

Back at the start of the millennium I worked on SETI managing to crunch around 800 classic units before my life circumstances changed.

Now that I am back I am rather amazed to find that my two GTX 580 graphics cards are able to punch out a stunning amount of work. GPU power is amazing!

I am planning to move house this summer and when I do I hope to reinstate a server farm. Hopefully my new house with have a nice cold basement from which I can channel a kW or three of CPU and GPU under-floor heating power. Might be a pipe dream but you never know!

Hope to get to know you all soon.

Welcome to TSBT and sorry for the delay in activating your account.

GPU crunching is awesome & your debut has not gone unremarked on: 15 million in 3 weeks 8) Wow! And with your discovery of DistrRTGen your million plus per day is propelling you through the ranks and making a big difference to the team.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of a Basement Boinc Farm as a source of underfloor heating. Go for it but watch the bills!

Yeah the bills scare me. I estimate I am on about a tenner a month for just the one PC. Mind you, I rarely have the heating on so it probably balances out reasonably well.

If I build up my server farm I will be using something horrific like 5kw/h, 24hours a day... now that will hurt the bank balance!

I'll trade suppliers :D

I put one of those energy test monitors on this computer, it eats around 4p an hour, over a day thats around a quid, and a month around £30.

My heated blanket is 3p an hour... :?

I'm unsure which is warmer...

Did I say a tenner a month?

Yeah I did.

I meant a tenner a WEEK!

I blame the error on a buffer overflow, probably caused by overheating.
