Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! Summer Solstice Challenge

2019-12-12 04:19 thru 2019-12-22 04:19

These GFN projects are part of the challenge:
GFN-21
GFN-22
GFN-DYFL
To participate in the Challenge, please select one or more of those projects in your PrimeGrid preferences section.

All 3 of those projects are GPU. Only GFN-21 is CPU and you'll need to configure the project to use multiple CPU cores per WU in order to finish in time. You can control the number of threads and max simultaneous WUs under the PrimeGrid preferences under the Job Control and Multi-threading section

Also, here is a sample app_config.xml which uses 4 threads per WU.

Code: Select all

<app_config>
   <app_version>
       <app_name>genefer</app_name>
       <cmdline>-nt 4</cmdline>
       <plan_class>cpuGFN21</plan_class>
       <avg_ncpus>4</avg_ncpus>
   </app_version>
</app_config>
Important!
There is no bunkering in the PG project challenges. Only WUs downloaded after the start date/time and uploaded before the end date-time will be counted.

Gregg, you in?

I see at least the CPU tasks you need to be all over your cooling...

Oops! Corrected. I also corrected the dates. It's actually a 10 day challenge starting on the 12th

FWIW, I ran a couple GFN21 CPU WUs using 27 threads per WU and it took 17.5 hours per WU. This was on a dual CPU rig with 2x Xeon V4 Broadwells that turbos all cores at 3.0Ghz. A similar system that has 2.8Ghz CPUs took 18.5 hours using 27 threads.

EDIT: It's a good way to wrack up some Genefer 21 WUProp hours.

Well, I'm a little slow out of the gate but I've got 189 threads on cpuGFN21 and 3 gpus on GFN 21.

We're good. We just haven't turned in any WUs yet. We need more crunchers though! You must run only these sub-projects...

GFN-21
GFN-22
GFN-DYFL

This is the app_config.xml I'm using to control the number of threads on both CPU and GPU WUs. I'm using 27 threads per CPU WU. Adjust your's accordingly...

Code: Select all

<app_config>
<project_max_concurrent>2</project_max_concurrent>
<app_version>
   <app_name>genefer</app_name>
   <cmdline>-nt 27</cmdline>
   <plan_class>cpuGFN21</plan_class>
   <avg_ncpus>27</avg_ncpus>
</app_version>
<app>
    <name>genefer</name>
<max_concurrent>3</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

You have now! ( almost double Picard's total and I suspect it will get worse :lol: ). Good luck though. I'm betting you get close, but don't break the top 15. (this is a 'Throw down the Gauntlet' sub-forum, right?) :wink:

I've had a change of heart & am now bunkering with a view to dropping late in the challenge so that EVGA have no time to respond (unless they are bunkering themselves, of course).

Rationale is that they are a big team and might dig a little deeper if they suddenly fall 12-15M points behind. As it stands, the TSBT team is doing a very nice job at keeping them within range.

I will keep watching, of course, but current plan would be to drop my bunkers on 21st Dec. Should be somewhere around 36M barring power cuts or machine fails.

Good thinking. Bunkering is not common with PG .. obvious given the way the challenges are set up as well as the mentality of returning units first (so that you get credit for any prime and your name in the top prime lists, the double checker gets just that, a note that they were the double checker). However dredging up any old machine out of storage that could possibly return a unit in time, yup that happens a fair bit.

19 'Lucky' WU completed and bunkered at approx 947,000 points each. 44.53hrs on a gtx1080ti but, for me, the stars are the gtx1660ti averaging about 50hrs as they only consume 117W each

Image

Keep up the good work, guys. The closer we stay to EVGA, the more the bunker drop on the 21st will blow them away

I have not seen @scole of TSBT move much recently so I suspect he may also be holding back as well. Early on I was thinking we were fairly evenly matched but he has fallen 4M behind me in the past 2-3 days.

That figures! I've been hitting it with everything I've got trying to catch up to you and then I find out I'm picking on a cripple :lol:

I'm really having a hard time deciding what I want to do. 4.5M more and I'd get my 1st 20M CPU badge on PG ... I'd have to run it to the end. But I really want to start moving back to Gerasim to finish our goals on FB. Decisions, decisions :pray:
