#1 23/11 - 4/12 ~ Rosetta Rumble ~ TSBT team effort-completed

The next challenge up is a GPU only effort so I propose this little side bet between the team only. No stats or positions here, this is for team glory only.
Between now and the end of the GPU challenge which I'm calling as 23:59 on the 4/12 lets see if we can move Rosetta up 1 (or 2 places) in the world standings.
Please donate a core ( or more ) to this effort for as long as you want and lets see where it takes us.
I'm going to be running 4 - 6 cores on this, who else is up for the challenge ?

Just found out that Rosetta seems to have a serious problem with new i7's. My last 65 WU's all completed successfully with no errors but have not validated, and they keep sending out the units despite.... not a happy bunny.
If you are running an i7 and Rosetta currently then you might want to check that you are actually being granted credit.
If this is going to be an issue then post up and I will switch challenge to either WCG, Seti, LHC or Einstein as these are the projects most in need, so post you're preference too.
Doesn't seem to effect older computers but Rosetta don't seem to be too proactive about solving this judging by the 'annoyed' comments on the message boards.
See here

OK, 'bout time I paid attention to Rosetta... now I can sing that song again "Well my little girl is a sweet little girl but she does things make your eyebrows curl..." they always throw me out of the bar when I sing it, though!

Spoil sports.. obviously no sense of culture

Mind you, from what i remember of Ravenna you're doing well to find a bar to get thrown out off !!! Did get bitten half to death by mossie's drinking outside cafe's not too far from the railway station.

Back in the day we would have called this a crunch rather than a rumble. :)
Anyhoo, after a couple of days of inattention, I'm now fully on board with a shed load of cores working on it.
Be warned however, Rosetta is a mature slow moving CPU only project where the front-runners (which certainly includes TSBT) are widely spaced and position changes between them are rare. I'd be quite surprised if we managed to move up so much as a single place between now and 4th December.
But this crunch will further consolidate a fairly secure position whereby the worst case scenario was that we might face a temporary demotion to 101st before fighting our way back to 99th over the next year. See
http://boincstats.com/en/stats/14/team/overtake/296/0/0
If we can sufficiently gain on our various prey while staying ahead of our predators, as to avoid any relegation, so much the better.
As regards the i7 issue I hadn't been aware of this. My top Rosetta cruncher is one of my i7s. It seems to do okay, but now I have the other 2 on Rosetta as well we will see if there is a problem or not

Maybe we could compromise and call it a crumble then ?
Granted, realistically moving up a place would take a serious team effort with a few new peeps attaching a core or two for the duration but hopefully it generates enough credit to stop our demotion, or at least shorten it's duration.

Well so far we have arrested the slide for a while and should overtake before being overtaken. All depends on how much of a cushion we can generate. Still no cure from Rosetta for my i7's 'issues'. Never should have called in Orac really.

Looks like Rosetta is down at the moment

Rosetta seem to be having all forms of problems judging by the unhappy teams and peeps of the message boards. Our output has fallen off a bit too and we are back to being overtaken before we regain our place. Anyone who doesn't normally do Rosetta would be welcome to crunch a few units for a day or too. As the advert goes...every little helps

One day to go and our output has stabilised, unfortunately looks like Sicituradastra has doubled there efforts to catch us

Wont be long before they push us into 101st place.

I'll put another couple of cores on Rosetta but it seems to go dead slow on my machines...

Only a couple of hours left of our team effort but I for one will continue to put effort into this after tonight. Just wish they would get this i7 fiasco sorted

Yup. I'll let my i7s finish their caches. in the hope they begin to make some progress, and I really don't like aborting downloaded work, but I'll devote as many of the other CPU cores to Rosetta as I can manage.
The situation isn't that bad really. At present Boincstats predict our eclipse by Sicituradastra in 22 days with us similarly smiting christianboards.org in 48 days. Our RAC for Rosetta is 14K ish. Getting up to 17K, and we managed 21.5K in the last 24 hrs, would spare us this temporary embarrassment so go for it guys.

I will punt some cpu time over to Rosetta, later tonight.

I had quite a work queue pending! Like our illustrious leader I don't particularly like cancelling work units once downloaded if I don't need too so Rosetta credits should start flowing in the early hours of tomorrow...
