Knock knock
#1 Knock knock
Hi,
I finally got my forum account so I thought it best to make use of it and say 'Hi'. Don't really know what else to say at the moment, apart from I joined SETI@Home back in July with no real aim or reason. I have no interest in SciFi what so ever but I thought maybe some good could come from my idle processor time.
So if any one has any suggestions then I'd appreciate them.

Welcome Mook!!
I met a guy yesterday that has been crunching SETI for many years. Just SETI. I was replacing his motherboard and when I powered it on to test, I saw the BOINC logo. I asked him about it and he said "What is BOINC?" I laughed and opened it up to show him. He said, "Oh that, that's what that is called?" I laughed a bit, and talked about how any crunching is furthering science no matter how small. (Plus I tried to get him to join our team)
And your crunching for TSBT. Not to shabby!!
Arrrrrr

Well to be honest I really don't know what I'm doing, but I'm willing to be guided by those that do.

Welcome
My apologies for the delay in creating your account. I shall check the gmail account rather more assiduously in future.
If you don't know what you are doing you are in good company. The important thing is that we are doing it.

Welcome Mook!
You will find us, generally, a friendly helpful bunch. Friendly and helpful until it gets competitive and Megacruncher comes out with some fighting talk.
Oh, and watch out for the Penguin.

Mook, do you have a decent graphics card? If so, you can use that for crunching as well. The crunching power of a modern graphics card is astounding.

Well it's not the best it's an old NVidia GeForce 8800 I've used it for SETI before but it didn't help the performance of my desktop while it was running so I stopped using it.Janos wrote:Mook, do you have a decent graphics card? There is a setting to turn off gpu crunching when the computer is in use.

True, but we already do our own GPU programming here anyway so the 8800 was really used as a proof of concept and assuming they want to go ahead with the project they can dig in to their pockets and do it (the project) justice.alezevo1 wrote:A monster for sure .... would recommend something a tad cheaper for the 8800 replacement though ...
