WHOO HOO! A fresh project! Can't wait. :)

From what I understand, the LHC is supposed to restart in May and many researchers are trying to get their models tested before then. I've PM'd Eric Macintosh, one of the project admins about the challenge. Anyone want to post a message on their forum? I can't because I don't have enough recent credit.

Better start racking up some credit pendings then. Have the usual laptop and some androids permanently on the WCG challenge and GPUGrid is off the menu currently as I have had nothing but issues with the latest units crashing or hanging my systems. Might just be that the GTX 660ti's are now getting obsolete for coping with GPUGrid. Will try and post the challenge on LHC forum if I can.

Hopefully there will be some units available. Been pretty sparse the last few days. Some available today if I can pick some up. Problem is the gaps between the availability means my backup projects keep picking up work or I would have to let the systems sit idle.

The project appears to release work in large batches every 4-5 days with smaller resend groups of 200-300 a couple times afterwards and there appear to be BOINC clients with huge caches set that grab most of them. Within a few hours of a large batch of tasks ready to send, they're gone and the tasks in progress takes 4-5 days to go down. I hope they can make it a fun challenge.

Big question now is, I have a few WUs on several systems. Do I let them finish or suspend them and wait for the challenge to start? I'm afraid if too many WUs in progress might hold up new batch of work being released.

I'm just crunching what I can get. Universe and POGS have tons of work so everytime LHC lets me down they pick up the slack and I get no LHC units :(

I think they're going to make an effort to keep WUs available.

LOAD UP GANG! Before it's gone!

The project appears to give out about 24 hours worth of work max. At least that's all I can get at one time. Suspending until the 24 hour mark, then bunker them.

For those of you still up, I had to change the <ncpus>24</ncpus> option in the cc_config.xml file to a double-triple the actual value to get enough WUs to bunker.

Mabel Higgs posing at the Winston County Fair, 1955.

Arley, Alabama

An elderly woman in Winston County has had enough. Mabel Higgs, 84, a retired schoolteacher has disconnected her telephone and no longer answers her front door after weeks of "being harassed and exhausted" by local and national journalists.

According to her grandson Thomas Higgs, also of the hamlet of Arley, Mrs. Higgs began to receive calls several weeks ago as excitement built over the impending discovery of the "God particle," otherwise known as the "Higgs boson." "Young, crackpot journalists, who apparently know nothing of science heard the rumours of my mother's award-winning bosom, and they haven't stopped calling or trespassing her property," said Mr. Higgs.
Scientists believe that the Higgs boson is the particle that gives all matter its mass. Experts know that elementary particles like quarks and electrons are the foundation upon which all matter in the universe is built. They believe the elusive Higgs boson gives the particles mass and fills in one of the key holes in modern physics.

But don't tell that to journalists from TMZ, CNN, or even The Guardian out of the UK. "It is well known all over the county that my mother won a contest at the Winston County Fair back in 1955 for "Most Impressive Bosom," and that if you Google "Higgs bosom" you will eventually come up with records of her award, which she is still proud of. In fact, my Mom still refuses to go into a nursing home for fear that all the old widowed men won't leave her alone. She still has an impressive décolletage. It's almost as impressive as her strawberry-rhubarb pie."

Hopefully I'll manage to find some time to look at it soon :(

Something I didn't expect was some long running WUs. In the beginning, WUs were running anywhere from 3 minutes to 3 hours. I'm now into WUs taking 12+hours on my fastest systems.

Down to 6th now as the hordes overrun us. On the plus side we have gained 4 places in the world so far which is pushing us further away from the danger zone and that's all good.
Rosetta could have been done with the same treatment, pity they choose to post the competition at the same time as this one.

Up 5 places now to 89th! :D
Which in itself makes the comp all worthwhile. :)
Anyway the biggest hoards are by us. We shouldn't drop below 6th place and could still get back 5th.
As for Rosetta if, in a couple of days, 6th is secure but 5th is out of reach then we should give it some laldy!

The boinc detectives on the case .... do we know the name of his dog yet ? :P Bit of a detour from the 50's soft porn and the cooking of bison hoggs ribs.
On more mundane matters 6th it looks like it will be with just less than 2 days to go. Trying to do some rosetta units at the same time now.
