ODROID-XU4 is powered by ARM® big.LITTLE™ technology, the Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution.
ODROID-XU4 is a new generation of computing device with more powerful, more energy-efficient hardware and a smaller form factor.
Offering open source support, the board can run various flavors of Linux, including the latest Ubuntu 15.04 and Android 4.4 KitKat and 5.0 Lollipop.
By implementing the eMMC 5.0, USB 3.0 and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, the ODROID-XU4 boasts amazing data transfer speeds, a feature that is increasingly required to support advanced processing power on ARM devices.

I noticed this the other day and was going to do a bit of research and post an update.
I'm currently doing some pricing to see what the cost of buying them works out at.

A massive package with a very small box inside it has arrived at my house.......
I should be able to give some feedback on performance as soon as I get some wiring done.
I also bought from the German distributer as I think they worked out cheapest.
Lilliput the British supplier is too expensive, ordering direct from Korea is cheaper including the import tax.
I also grudge paying almost the same to ship from England as it would've been from Korea!

Will all 4 cores run at 2Ghz at the same time or do they downclock like the android tv boxes?

I'm expecting them to all run at 2GHz although I won't know till I try.
All my other droids run at their advertised speeds so........

I expect this: The
Samsung Exynos 5422 as used in the Odroid-XU4 is a Octa-core Soc is made of:
- ARM Cortex-A15 Quad @2000MHz and
- ARM Cortex-A7 Quad @1400MHz CPU
Note that Samsung itself rates the Soc at 2100MHz for the A15, respectively 1500MHz for the A7.

Can anyone tell me how I can check what speed the cores are running at on linux?
I've had a litlle poke around but can't see what will do the job.
On a positive note it looks like all 8 cores run
Unless someone spots an obvoius error that I've made....

Instead of increasing your lead on enigma should that graphic not show 8 instances of subset@home running ? looks good so far, might be my next addition

It should indeed Alez, however as my German reading skills are somewhat poor I ordered a linux emmc card instead of an android one
Turns out that you can't run subset on a droid running on linux so I stuck it on enigma to see how it does, and I think the answer to that is poorly!
I need to do some double checking but I think a linux droid crunches enigma at half the speed of an android one
That's why I was asking how to check the clock frequency to see if thats maybe the problem....

I'm not sure the info that was on that web page will actually give you what you are after. I tried them on my Linux PCs and what they showed was what Intel reports for the processor. Even the ones they say monitors it live say exactly the same thing 3.2G which is the base rate with no turbo. So either Linux downclocks and changes what the BIOS setups up for overclocking, in this case 4.2G, or it is just reading the base info supplied on the processor from Intel. Since my heat/core is the same running Linux or WIndows then I don't think they are being downclocked.

It takes a while but you could burn an Android image onto your emmc. It isn't hard - just follow the hardkernel guide. If you want to stay on Linux then I would recommend Asteroids as it is much faster on arm-linux than on arm-android.

Thanks Bryan, i'm surprised it's so hard to find out the cpu frequency on linux as its so simple on android and windoze.
Cheers Janos, I was going to ask what you'd found to be a successful arm/linux combo. I'll give asteroids a go and see how it gets on, anything else you've found good?
I know I could burn an android image but thought since that's what came I'd try linux first, and mainly cos I was too impatient to see how my new toy got on

I honestly don't know how I ordered the wrong one, total brain fade moment I suspect
Don't worry Alez, I've got a heap of the usb adaptor. I just wanted to get it fired up and running before I potentially destroy the image trying to install a new one

I've had a couple raspberry pi B+ systems collecting dust since the miners are offline so I decided to fire them up and run an asteroids wu on each of them, mainly to just collect WUProp hours. Estimated over 7 days to complete the WU

I am waiting for a Waka Waka to be able to run my Raspi B+ from solar power. I hope to be able to run Radioactive@Home on that Raspi, plus WUProp and Enigma. Should be enough for the sole ARM11 core.
