#1 GPU AIO hybrid cooler unit repair

Post by scole of TSBT »

I have an EVGA GTX 1080 FE with an EVGA AIO hybrid cooler that has a small coolant leak somewhere. I haven't found where it's leaking from. I only smell it. It's the distinctive anti-freeze smell. I would just replace it but you can't even find a used one any longer. I was considering DIY radiator replacement. Does anyone know of others who have done this or have any advice?

No real experience of them sorry. You might pick up a used air cooling module though - lots of folks must have taken one off

I have the original blower cooler but they are junk and don't work well. That's the whole reason I looked for different cooler to begin with

You can try and find the leak. Try using kitchen towel or look / feel for residue / dampness. It's a low pressure system so hoses can be replaced or sealed with rubber amalgamating tape. Leaks at connections can be sealed with Teflon tape. If it's the actual radiator then chemical metal is your friend.

Alternatively, remove the system from the card, blank one end and pressure the other end to find the leak. If it has a reservoir for topping up, try sealing a bicycle tyre pump to the reservoir and pressurise the whole system, you should be able to find the leak.
If it doesn't and you can top the system up with fluid, drain it as best as you can and them fill it with water mixed with a food dye. Then , hopefully you can find the leak.

It's an EVGA brand hybrid cooler. They also sell a AIO CPU water cooler and I have to wonder if the AIO unit in the hybrid GPU cooler is not the same as the AIO cpu cooler. Going to strip it all down this weekend and see what it looks like.

I like using TP to locate small liquid leaks.
