Started back in the 90's using distributed computing even before Boinc. Someone at university was running SETI. Quick online search and lots of projects to start with. My biggest contribution at that time was for United Devices and some math projects. Still a big fan of the standalone clients.
Think I used BOINC when it first appeared, not sure which was my first project though. Need to find a list of old projects.

Started in Aug 2018 but really only got going a few months later. Proud to have been the #1 Newcomer in the world that year

I caught the SETI bug back in July 1999 after seeing articles about it in the press. I joined a wee team called Scotland’s SETI which gradually went from about 2000th in the world to top 100 by the time SETI classic wound up. The team just about survived the transition to BOINC and we rebranded it as TSBT.

Don't remember "How" I got started. It was Apr. '07 on WCG running the "United Devices" software.
Formed My Own Team and crunched alone for the 1st 2 years..
Started adding more and more systems until I have what I've got today. Mostly adding Older cheaper systems over the Latest Greatest ones.
Still have one of those still running today 15 years later..

I was drafted in 1999 at IBM-IGNS in Uithoorn, the Netherlands, for Seti@Home and was member of the IBM sub-team IBM-Space Boarding Services, AFAIK.. When my subcontractor job at IBM-IGNS was over I joined the team of my employer, CTG (Computer Task Group). After some mass laid-offs the team became dormant and I joined AMD Users, as my main systems have almost always been AMD -started with a K6III-400 @450MHz. Then Seti became part of BOINC and I started slowly to crunch at ever more projects and subprojects.

I started on Wed, 05 May 99 17:23:28 -0400 on a giant screened Dell computer. For a very long time I only did Seti and eventually got interested in other projects. My Mom also got interested and we bought her a computer. Now I am running 4 computers and still love doing Boinc.

Do you have a reason behind why you joined actively running distributed computing?

Yes - no less than 3 close friends all diagnosed with cancer in the space of a few weeks. Two survive

I thought maybe I could detect a radio signal from a far away planet or solar system. I kept looking at the display from Seti on my screen.pinhodecarlos wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 11:52 am Do you have a reason behind why you joined actively running distributed computing?
