#1 New version of Boinc

Post by Reeltime »

OK 1st time Ive had to do this.

There is a new version of Boinc available.

After downloading and installing will all the projects etc automatically transfer over to the new client or do I have to do this manually?

If you are installing over the top of an existing v5 Boinc client everything will "just work".

Don't uninstall or delete any folders or data, just download and install, the installer will handle everything for you.

If you are installing over a v4 client, that's different. I can't remember exactly, but i think you have to uninstall first. I doubt very much you will have a v4 client though do it should be plain sailing.

As far as I recall (it was sometime ago!) all I did was manually exit BOINC then run the installer. :?

'Tis all a moot point as the gentleman is running 5.10.20 at the moment. 8)

Just download and install over the top.
Don't panic though if it doesn't run the first time it restarts.
I've had a coupls off updates fail, just simple re-install the new version again and everything is back exactly as it was before.

Not overly sure if this is the right place to post this ... anyhow ..

Mac OS X
Version 10.3+
6.1.10 Development version (standard GUI)
(MAY BE UNSTABLE - USE ONLY FOR TESTING)

Mac OS X seems to be the 1st platform to almost move to V6 ...

should I upgrade v5.n.n - anyone know what v6 offers?
... is that apple pie I smell

I suspect the answer is in your post.....May be unstable - use only for testing!

From memory V6 brings several major changes to the security and setup of the Boinc Core. I don't think it is at all stable just now and I believe there are still major hurdles to overcome in the installation and migration between V5 and V6.

Usual caveats apply, but...install if you are an early adopter, otherwise if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
