I don't have a super fast PC, (Athlon 64 3800+)but I was thinking about starting another project, Would my processor handle it? and if it would what project would benefit the team the most?
Any help on settings etc would be most appreciated.

Hi Mark,

certainly your machine will be capable of running more than one project, assuming you have a "normal" amount of disk space that is.....normal being anything more than 1 or 2 Gig!

Just go to the Boinc Manager and select Attach to Project, select the project of your choice and sign up. Boinc sorts out all the rest. You don't have to worry about any settings, priorities etc (unless of course you want to tweak, but that's another story).

Which project? Well perhaps a main stream would be Rosetta or World Community Grid would be a good place to start. Both are supporting bio projects that hope to advance biological and medical understanding. If Bio projects are not your thing, perhaps Climate Prediction, or Einstein. Climate Prediction(CPDN) does what it says on the tin. The units are huge and take weeks or months to crunch (but Boinc handles that too). Einstein is attempting to search for gravity waves bt sifting data from interferometers.

There are plenty of others: the list is long, but click me to see a short summary of some of them.

Enjoy!

Just to reinforce what Nightlord said; I have one desktop (a Pentium D 3.7GHz) that is run fairly constantly and, as you can see from my signature, am active in ~16 projects. The BOINC manager is very good at doing what it is designed to do - namely running multiple projects.

To start with I would suggest attaching to maybe three projects and see how you get along. Once you're happy with it you can start adding more - if you want to.

If you want to know about a project BEFORE you attach, just ask. Someone here has run it. Between Snowdog, Mega, FlyingFocrs, Nightlord, myself and a few others, we should have them all covered.

It's official im stupid :? I thought the PC would try to crunch all the projects at the same time  I have added another two, I take it I have to join The Scottish Boinc Team for each project :?:

Yes, you have to join the group for each project you attach to

You do, unless you're using a boinc account manager such as, err.., Boinc Account Manager. To be honest it's easier to join each project team individually.
