#1 McMint Our 18th millionaire.

It's already been mentioned but it warrants it's own thread that McMint, one of our modest majority of silent crunchers has hit 7 digits.
As our 18th millionaire this means that one of our main goals, 20 millionaires by the end of the year, is likely to be in the net before the end of the summer!

Looks like the race is on for 19th and 20th then :)

Going to have to see if I can get some more power from somewhere, I know I don't want to be the last one in :D

Right now, it looks like Andrew's next, followed by me, then JavaJoe, in close succession.

Though the new member dw1234 is currently an unknown quantity, so that may have to be amended.

Whooo, I'm a wildcard :)

Not sure if I'll make it in the 20, but I may get 21!

Keep racing boys!
There are four of you who should be millionaires before the end of July.

Nobody will lose but some will win first! :D

In all honesty I think dw1234 isn't a wildcard at all, there's a chance you're going to beat me to 19th, although I have hurriedly been rebuilding machines today to get a last push in before it's all too late.

The way I see it going down...
  • Me
dw1234 (very very close behind, as in on the same day perhaps....)
    cycloneranger
    JavaJoe

I gotta get more machines on the job if I'm going to be 19th!
Scotty, I need more power!

I'm givin' 'er all she's got Captain!

I finally took down the bulk of the farm; it was getting harder and harder to maintain the old girls, so they're on their way to charity recycling. I'll just have to rely on the two quads, the dual, and the old dual server to limp along. What I'm doing is all I'm going to be able to afford to do for a while.

So, I guess I'll get passed in short order by at least two blokes, but that's OK. What I really want is to get my first million, then start helping the team where needed, regardless of the 'return' factor.

dw1234, SLOW DOWN! :P
Things are looking dodgy for me now in the race to 19th.

We built a dual Xeon quad core today and set it running Cosmology.
With an estimated unit per 50 minutes and 8 cores running on the box, thats 11520 points a day.
Question is, will it be enough for 19th place...?

Honestly, this is the perfect time for you to turn off your PCs and take a holiday

Holy crunchees - a new Xeon Duo running Cosmology. 8 cores WOW.

Does it smoke or make crackling noises? Just kidding.

Now that will make a dent in our fight for global supremacy.

Nice job Andrew. :D :D :D :D :D :D

BTW, if Riesel Sieve ever gets fixed, that machine should do an easy 18K a day.

Holy-Moley that'll boost your stats. Might just get you to 1G first. Imagine a farm full of those! 8)

I dont know whats gone wrong today :(
7,543 points in total...

Somehow the numbers just don't work, I emptied the cache from 4 machines that arent online all the time, and there are 9 boxes constantly hooked up.

Either I'm due a whole load of credit or I have a problem somewhere. And the worst possible time for it to become an issue too

Nope, with stats like these I'm going to be trailing into 20th with my tail between my legs.

The dual Xeons wont be a permanent fixture in our ranks by the way, just on for the time being to try and boost the numbers :(
Chances are it'll be getting rebuilt in the not too distant future.
Shame, because it sure is a beast of a machine :D

EDIT: Just logged onto cosmology and see that I have 26000 in pending credit, shame it doesn't count in BOINCStats.....grrr

Some days are like that. It's probably pending credit that will boost your stats in a day or two. I looked at your figures for Cosmology and your new beast should start making a big, 5 digit , difference very soon.

EDit: Just spotted your edit. There you go. That'll make a difference, to you and the team.

Andrew, Cosmology goes through these spurts. I also have about 15K pending. They have a major database problem and can't service upload/downloads and assimlation at the same time. Besides, all the peeps that have moved there from Riesel Sieve have added 50% more w/u's to the mix. The admin is pretty good, so don't worry.

Even I, as a currently rather quiescent Cosmologist, have 3K pending which will work out at at least 8K. :D Creditfest coming up soon!!! 8)

I can really believe in the science of Cosmology@Home. Even if I didn't, and just fancied some credit-whoring, it would be an excellent choice. Maybe it should be a post 100 TSBT priority?

Not a good day for credits all round. Cosmology and Seti aren't validating results very well just now so we are all a bit short. Frustrating in the extreme for our budding millionaires. :(

Yep, and ABC is down hard as well -- and has been for almost 48 hours as we speak.

It must be an epidemic. Riesel Sieve has been down 13 days as we speak. I have quite a horde of RS w/u's to upload. They usually honor old w/u's when things iron out. Rumors have it that the server is being moved. I think the admin is just on holiday.

The RS problem is directly responsible for the Cosmology slowdow. All the credit hogs moved there from RS.

I've taken this opportunity to go after personal goals of 1MM in several projects. Lets hope all the problems are resolved soon.

I read somewhere (I think on one of the message boards) that BOINC servers had been targeted by spammers who caused multiple thrombolytic clots in the projects.

NOTE: I have no idea that this is true, and have seen nothing from Berkeley indicating anything systemic.

12k points overall yesterday :?
This is with a couple of extra dual cores thrown into the mix. Still not enough for 19th millionaire, but 20th is looking OK though.

I have had a look through BOINCStats at the different hosts, and there have been some days recently when some of my stable machines have had 0 points, and others are down from 1500 points a day to just 500, most of this has happened within the past couple of weeks or so.

Race on DW :D

On your mark, set, go! :)

Yeah my points per day have been cut ~40% due to these issues.

Any new news on what's cuasing the issue(s)?

No idea yet, but when trying to upload Cosmology units a message is coming back in the logs saying that the service is down for maintenance. Nothing to give a hint when it'll be back. I have 30k+ pending, plus a few hundred units spread over various PCs that are still to upload. Not looked into any other projects yet. Shame it couldnt have happened a week later when the race was over :P

There are a number of similar problems affecting several projects. Basically all have hardware and or database problems
SETI says: We are working on a sudden (as of yesterday) database performance problem. Work distribution will be slow until we fix this. Forums and other web features involving the database are currently off. Update - July 10: no solutions yet - various services will be up and down as testing continues.
Cosmology: Has been up and down all day & is struggling to validate a huge backlog of completed workunits.
ABC & Reiselseive: Have been tits up for a few days now.

It happens to most projects from time to time. Clyclones rumour about spammers doing the damage is interesting but as ever cock-up is more likely than conspiracy. I imagine its the summer heat & limited summer holiday IT support on college campuses leaving dangerously overstretched servers more vulnerable than usual.

The trick is to be patient, don't delete any completed work even if it's past its sell by date & crunch other projects instead.

CPDN is always worth having a few long life units in reserve or we could just all do WCG & see if it falls over too!

My thoughts exactly. There's been only one post blaming spammers, and I think we'd know by now.

I reinstated WCG (since I was going to anyway), and will play the waiting game elsewhere.

Another option for keeping your cores toastie would be Sudoku. We are still world #7 both by RAC & TC and have 4 Formula Boinc points from it even though I'm the only team member with a PC on it full time.
EDIT: Or at least Sudoku would be a good choice if it too hadn't gone off line.

It would be nice if we were as the existing team record is 4,880,984 in September 2006 when we were morphing into TSBT from Scotland's Seti!

Certainly if they all get fixed together, and it'll probably be more peicemeal than that, then we could hope for at least 600,000 a new third highest.

Anyway Andrew, you are now now in pole position at 981K , Javajoe is at 980K but moving slowly, CycloneRanger is 971K and likely to overtake JJ but vulnerable to the new kids on the block, dw1234 is on 958K but with a huge RAC. Can he manage a sprint finish. Maybe. It all depends on when the Cosmology validator gets fixed. :)

The state of the race accorfing to BoincStats is
dw1234 ............ 995K
Andrew ............ 988K
Javajoe ............ 983K
CycloneRanger . 971K
Or if you prefer Temujin's stats, and for these purposes they work perfectly, dw1234 has already pased 1Gig. :wav:

Yeah, I'm cocked up, with two consecutive days of ZERO results, thanks to having all my eggs in the ABC basket.

Well done DW :D

Much as I am gutted to not quite have managed to beat you to the 19th millionaire spot, it sure is good to have you onboard the team.

I would say race you to the 2 mil mark, but you've already got it in the bag with the numbers you're churning out :P

The points are always wacky, but recently they've been particularly bad. Still the picture is clear enough. dw1234 won no doubt about it and Andrew will be there very soon (already is according to Temujin). Well done guys! 8) So the fight now is for 21st!

Interesting stats on team millionaires.

Seti.USA has 179 millionaires
Seti.USA has 7700 total members of which 2.3% are millionaires
Seti.USA has 2758 active members of which 6.49% are millionaires

TSBT has 22 millionaires
TSBT has 426 total members of which 5.16% are millionaires
TBST has 192 active members of which 11.4% are millionaires

Nuf said. We almost double them in both catagories. :D :D

Gee thanks for the 9 million challenge. As for 10 million, it's not as pre-ordained as you think. My RAC is dropping like a rock even though it doesn't show. Riesel Sieve has been down for 21 days and hasn't updated stats for that long. I've stopped doing Cosmo because of the server problems.

I think my new RAC is around 32MM. SO, any race to 10 million should be fair. Besides, I kinda like you leading the pack, breaking the wind as it is. Speaking of wind, Royal Birkdale was a fun place this week.

PS: SetiBeta won't be a problem anymore, I'm taking her to a 1MM personal goal (Only 960K to go).
