:( my child decided to unplug my pc when it was doing some updates, so i turned it back on and it said it will have to do a start up repair.
After a while it said "Do you want to use windows restore to fix the problem" ok so i let it, then it came back on and started to do some disc checking and deleted a load of stuff from the boot menu and went off and when it came back on wouldnt boot up .

My version of windows 7 is an upgrade version so i couldnt format and start again, then i had to borrow a version that would and all i could get hold of was XP and that was a 32 bit job but for some reason it installed it :?: it shouldnt have done its a bloody 64 bit processor,it was a load of dogs dinner slower than a snail on weed ffs!!

So now im at my nieces having to download a hooky 64 bit xp to get my pc going in order to upgrade my pc back to my copy of windows 7 x64 which is legal by the way and cost 80 quid for a bloody upgrade version :o.

If my son touches it again im giving him up for adoption  so by some time later on i might get crunching again, im so hacked off right now

See you all later with a bit of luck :).

Hmm afaik you can't do an inplace upgrade from XP to 7 as they are different. You would need to do a full install of 7 or upgrade from Vista.

Its ok mate what you do is install xp 64 then put the windows 7 64 disc in and go into the disc tree find set up and click it, it then says you cant upgrade and you have to wipe the existing install and off it goes.

I know this as thats how i have done it last time and it works, but as i wont need anything from xp 64 it dosent matter, i just need a 64 bit version of something as a base to go from.

Ah ok I didn't know that. I would have thought you would have needed a full install disc to install from. But that's handy if you can do a clean install from an upgrade disc too.
