I was wondering about this challenge.
Were on the board at #10, I have about 26 cores on it I think. Hopefully enough to get us up a little in the standings. Got off to a late start, no thanks to SIMAP but moving along nicely now.

UOTD or User of the Day - it counts how many times you have been UOTD on any project's home page. It refers to all projects for which you have created a profile in your account... nothing to do with the number credits or even how much you've been contributing to the project on the day in question!Skywalker TSBT wrote:PS. 20 hours in an we just took 7th.
Need a few more players if we want to lower the gap to 6th.
As is, we should be able pull away from the lower pack and keep 7th.

Can someone explain to me, how with 255 workunits pending for validation for chump change of around 20 points each for around 5000 points, one guy in SETI can come in with 127,000 points in a shot???? Why so high? That's like a million cores, and the validator saying OK ,, yummy!! How can one guy get so many points so quick. It takes days for my WU's to be validated. I'm still getting points from the asteroid competition. Are they sitting on workunits and uploading them all in one shot so they get validated all in a row?
Do I need to slip a quid in with the results? :banghead:

8-10 PCs and 3-4 decent GPUs'll give that on SETI... most of the credits come in on the GPUs in any case so don't need a lot of PCs. Naturally you have to be patient enough to build up a backlog of about 500 - 600 Wus so that the credits roll in regularly.Skywalker TSBT wrote:Can someone explain to me, how with 255 workunits pending for validation for chump change of around 20 points each for around 5000 points, one guy in SETI can come in with 127,000 points in a shot???? You can always slip a quid or two to the Seti bunch, they're always keen greenbacks...

I didn't know there was a GPU WU for SIMAP.
So, can one sit on a bunch of WU's that were completed prior to a competition and upload them during it?

There isn't... thought you were talking about SETI the project not the team...Skywalker TSBT wrote:I didn't know there was a GPU WU for SIMAP.

In SIMAP comps some people hoard 'n dump... (SIMAP allows you to download 60 wus per core so you can usually hoard 2-3 days of stuff per core before the comp starts)

I missed the kick off but I now have 8 cores on the job with more to come.
BTW the UOTD wreath thing only appears if you tick it - which I have done.
