I suspect quite a few people will be in this challenge. Shall we join in?

Think this one will be a dog fight to the end. Count me in :D Good chance I may try and throw everything at it if I get the chance to configure before the challenge :x

Anyone gearing up for this? I've been late to the last two challenges, but plan to get a jump on this one.

In case anyone else can't get a HD 6XXX working for the milkyway app, here's the cc_config.xml entry I used. Lets the 6XXX gpu work on other milkyway@home apps, but lets the ones than can crunch milkyway work. That apps pays well for this project.

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/</url>
<device_num>1</device_num>
<type>ATI</type>
<app>milkyway</app>
</exclude_gpu>
</options>
</cc_config>

If you want to get the HD6xxx series to work on all milkyway units.
run amdcleanuputility
install AMD-APP-SDK-v2.8-Windows-64
install 12-10_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4

Should do the trick :D Worked for me anyway on two different boxes running win 7, one with a HD6990 and one with a 6970 plus a pair of gigabyte 7770's

For the 7970 on win 8 I have no idea as I have not got and I'm trying never to have to have anything to do with win 8 or the vampire that is the win DDM. My 7970 runs fine with the latest drivers under win 7. No reason not to try the above mentioned drivers. Alternatively you could try the fix from this post http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/for ... stid=61344

more info here http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/for ... =6&start=0

The 7970 actually wasn't the problem. It was the 6XXXX. Just mis-read the GPU numbers. I thought I tried a clean uninstall and install install of 12.10 on Win 8.1 with no luck. Will try again tomorrow.

First chance I've really had to stretch the legs of the herd and see what they can do on some DP project. Seems monsieur scole250 has been hiding a few GPU's behind the sofa though, Me thinks the gentleman has had a few cards up his sleeve :D
Maybe we should start a thread where it's cards on the table about what we are actually all running. :shock:
Boinc@Poland are pulling away from us which is irretrievable unless a few more GPU's are put on the cause. At least at the moment the RussiaTeam should not be a threat.

Collatz challenge up next for the GPU's :D Hopefully that will be a full team effort on the GPU crunching :twisted:

Because they live in Ad land, where everyone is happy and glamorous, whilst doing the washing up / hoovering / ironing etc. Though they haven't sunk quite as far as the spoonful of yogurt gives a woman an orgasmic experience quite yet :shock:

Anyhoo.
4th of 17 seems easily good enough. :) Third would be greedy & difficult. :?
I'll do what I can to let us hold on to 4th, regardless of my ambitions to secure a new all time high personal combined placing! :roll:
We seem to be doing alright, so far pulling steadily clear of the Russkies! The Aussies, gaining rapidly on the Russkies are maybe more of a risk. But I'll do my bit to help hold them at bay.

This is the issue. Where as in olden times chocolate or vodka was the way forward, apparently it's all about the fat free or the indulgent snack now :shock: Seems us blokes just can't get it right in ad land :(

This sounds interesting, I am somewhat intrigues to see what devices are keeping this team going, wno't need to be a particularly big table for my cards though!

Alex, hows that 6990 doing on the different Milkyway tasks?

This may be well known to everyone else, but I reduced the % of processors to use to 75% on my GPU systems and picked up quite a bit of extra throughput.

Anyhoo.

We are over a million clear in 4th (of 19) with the Aussies not really threatening at all. :)

I'll try and titrate my input so as to keep 4th a certainty for this project but without completely knackering my prospects of hitting an all time high for Boinc combined!

I'm running the same 75% to ensure the Gpu is fed. My 6990 is running on a Q6600 Cpu system but I think the pcie 2 specs and only 2 GB ram are a limiting factor. Some more Ram on order. On milkyway the 6990 is treated as 2 x 6970's. Does anyone know of a project ( probably other than Moowrapper ) that the 6990 is treated as a single GPU rather than a dual 6970 ?

Just over halfway in and we find ourselve firmy locked in fourth place. :)
We show no signs of catching Boinc@Poland, a fairly stubborn 1.5 million ahead, and Russia Team are now a massive 2.5 million behind with the Aussie threat having failed to materialise.

Now that Collatz is back up I might ease off MW a little and but I'll check in daily to see if the challenge main men Alez, scole250, Janos & Paul need any help. I'm sure they won't! :)

I have a bunch of Collatz CPU and GPU tasks that have due dates in the next few days. I always try to complete tasks rather than let them expire because of the wing-man thing, but solo_collatz doesn't have that issue does it? Is it bad Boinc etiquette to let tasks expire or abort them?

Yes, even setting aside the credit requirements of any wingman, it always strikes me as wasteful and bad form to download work and then not do it. Although it will all get sent out again & I don't suppose it does any real harm except to waste a bit of everyone's plentiful bandwidth.

Fairly much what Mega said except to add that most projects would rather you abort work that you can't or don't want to do rather than letting it sit around and expire. Aborting the units, informs the project immediately that the work will not get done and so can be immediately sent out again to another host.
