SUSA is pleased, as am I ...we're also glad to have Dirk and AMD user there too.scole250 wrote:Wouldn't miss it. It will be good to crunch a fresh project. :pirate:
Scole...Goldsboro, hmmm...I'm in Chapel Hill. Nice to have another NC Cruncher in the neighborhood. FYI, Bok, who runs the FREE-DC Stats page is in Wake Forest, so we have a formidable crunching group in NC.

Chapel Hill, eh? He's OK lads. Put away those cutlasses. You'd make a fine pirate Mr. Sphynx, not to be confused with those drunkards in Greenville.
I have to assume you're associated with UNC somehow. My wife and I went to school at Miami U in SW Ohio, but our son is a huge Carolina fan and he has dreams of going to school there. He's only 11 and we advised him he needs to figure out what he really wants to study first. I think highly of NC State too

Me and Dirk joined NFS on the same day so that always adds a bit of extra interest. I see you are ahead of me .... again. This will have to be rectified. Might have to issue a pre comp beep beep
Cutlasses are away Mr Scole , but I retain the right to call in an air strike
The Pirate cores want some competition to, so Anguillan Pirates is in the race with the usual quest to not be the team in last place

Remember as well guys that NFS still has ridiculous memory usage. Basically if you don't have 2GB memory per core then don't run the 16e tasks. You need to stick to the 14e and 15e tasks which pay less.

15e pays double 14e (credit/time). Unless you're working for WUProp app advancement, skip 14e.

#10 Re: 15/3-20/3 Need For Speed II - NFS Challenge
Thanks for the above Scole. I'll need to remember and update my project preference when I get home.

I appreciate not being associated with that bunch.scole250 wrote:Chapel Hill, eh? He's OK lads. Put away those cutlasses. You'd make a fine pirate Mr. Sphynx, not to be confused with those drunkards in Greenville.![]()

My association is through my wife, she works at UNC on the hospital side. Good University, your son would enjoy it there.scole250 wrote:I have to assume you're associated with UNC somehow. 24 hours till the start of NFS. Good luck to you all! See you there.

Took a bit of tuning but I now have 16e running happily on three machines and 15e on one lower spec machine. :) I did try 14e but they all errored on my Linux boxes.

WCG challenge almost over. Time to start downloading NSF WUs.

#16 Re: 15/3-20/3 Need For Speed II - NFS Challenge
Best get my systems off Van Der Waerden Numbers and back to NFS. Ran it for a few days earlier in the week so at least know which can and can't run the 16e units. Kick off at midnight tonight , 16 teams in it so far.

Weirdest thing .... Caro my i7 3770K with 16GB of ddr3 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Linux will not run the 14e app. It actually causes a core on the cpu to lock ??? and the system to become totally unresponsive which only a hard reset gets it out of this state. Never heard or seen of such before. Seems to run the 15e fine.
Doesn't effect any of my other Linux boxes and doesn't happen on Orac which is the same processor and memory on a different board but running win7.
Anyhoo the challenge is off and running and we are 3rd so far. Sure that will change as all the bunkers get dropped. Think the NFS server is in for a hard hour or so

We are in a fairly robust 4th place now.
Only 11 teams taking part so far and just 72 participants of whom 6 crunch for TSBT and there is a solitary pirate keeping Ukraine in bottom position. :)

Got up this morning to find I was down 16 cores
, 8 back up and running, 8 more in the process.... not that it would have made any difference when I got flattened by the Janos Juggernaut coming through. I had almost forgotten what that was like

Server just crashed, win etc, up and running now. Caro well can't get it to run for a few hours without a cpu core going into an infinite loop and then locked screen etc. but still running. So far got it stable, I think , by overclocking and over volting cpu, turning off hyper thread and upgrading to the latest Ubuntu beyond 14.04 LTS. If it's still up tomorrow morning then I have made progress.
Sitting nicely in 4th as a team. Guess it's individual kudos to fight for now
7 of us in the top 100 and a shout out to Rabbie for his first comp and just outside the top 50. Might have a fight on your hands Paul

In a previous house, I was rebuilding a garage when the digger unearthed my neighbours garage supply. I was sorely temped and had visions of a huge data centre. I recall I was on ebay that night looking at racks :)Silver wrote:I'm off to investigate borrowing some electricity from the neighbours
