2015 Formula Boinc Challenge

If anyone is looking for some place to put their cores, we could use some help on Universe@Home. We were in 1st place on that project but meisterkuehler.de Team blitzed us. Probably won't make a difference in our overall FB finishing position, but it's a matter of pride.

Let's take back 1st on Universe!

Did you get any work before it dried up? Not sure what is going on with the project. All my WUs are staying in pending. Not one has gone valid, though I've check a few where the wingman has already completed their's as well. The validators must be offline. Read some posts about possible credit issues, over granting credit.

According to bam stats I've got ~20 hours worth of wu's however a huge chunk of my unstarted BHspin ones have an estimated time of 00:00:00 so we'll see what happens with them.
I've only got 19 units pending but then I'm not crunching anywhere near as many as you to begin with.

Eh, I'm going to finish up the Universe work I have and let it go. We're now over 600K out of 1st and can't match their pace. Will earn some WUProp hours on the 2 new apps though.

I can't even get to universe. Seems most corporate firewalls I've been behind automatically block polish addresses ??? Anyhoo, think this year is over, time to start the planning for a proper tilt at this next year

Ok, do the bispin units actually work on linux ? I had to stop running them as they simply ran for ever on my system and I can't reach my universe page to change my projects preferences. If they do work I will fire them up on the servers again.

I'd dump the BHSpin WUs and grab all the ULX WUs you can. There were problems reported with some BHSpin WUs but don't know if it got resolved. Might be why it took so long for my credit to get ramped up. Plus the ULX pay the same but take much less time.

Yes sir, I ran some a week ago ... take 8000s and pay 333 on my I7.

EDIT: unless something has changed in the past week on the BHspin WU then ULX pays MUCH better. They are completing in 5000s versus 8000 I saw on BH a week ago. Both pay 333.

Producing?? I was just planning on giving moral support and cheer you on. I didn't want to see you give up on yourself!

Actually, I will go full bore for 24 hours but then I might have to pull off for a day or two. LAF is/was making a run at us on DDM. USTL was outproducing us by 400k/day so a number of us loaded up to counter. We managed to break the server and couldn't get work for 24 hours. Of course as soon as I loaded up on Universe then DDM started issuing work again

So I'll have to watch and see what is happening tomorrow and I may have to pull off for a couple of days.

Preliminary numbers look like I can put up decent numbers on Universe ULX. BTW, if you have 48 thread computers you can get more WU cached

I had to bump it up to 64 cores to get the work I wanted cached. This project is notorious for running out of work and here at the end of FB, I expect the work to disappear quickly.

You can change your preference to the ULX on the project and after you have 2 to 3 times your number of threads of the new ULX WU loaded into cache you can delete the BHspin WU. Even if you piss off the server you will have enough ULX WU to turn in so it becomes happy with you again.

AMEN

Aborting isn't a problem because they go right back into the available WU pool and get reissued. The one that is a sin is letting them timeout! On that one the only exception is if you are in a challenge and your wingman belongs to a competitive team

OUCH!! Guess who dumped a bunker ... we went from 500k behind to 900k. FreeDC isn't showing it yet, but FB stats and the project are showing it.

It's a good thing that help is on the way

I've started getting WU that say it will take 30 days to complete .... obviously the time is incorrect. However, on a VM that is running some of them it appears that the compute time will be almost 5X what I've been getting. I haven't turned in any yet but I hope the credits are adjust accordingly. Otherwise it will be harder to overcome meisterfarts.de lead.

Of course I do still have over 400 WU of the shorter variety on each machine except for that 1 VM

After your post Scole I did increase my cpus to 64 (thank goodness). Seeing the increased length of the new WU I wish I had added some of my 96 thread machines

I hope the project admin changes the credit on the new ULX WUs. The same credit for 4 times the work isn't going to gain the project any fans.

My pendings jumped considerably last night ... added 300. The project is out of the ULX and giving out BHspin so if you had your preferences set to only get the ULX you need to change that.

I'll have you know I've been busy today. I repaired several bad potholes on the main road into our neighborhood today. Roads are still private, not part of the NC road system yet so we're stuck maintaining them until we can get all the work done to get them accepted by the state.

Since you've been whuppin' up on me I didn't know whether to hang my head in shame or congratulate you for doing something right

Actually though there is another possibility:

Pay Attention Gentlemen (and you too Scole) - if you have any ULX WU cached that are prior to batch 51 then abort them. They are long running but only pay 333 credits. The ULX_51 and later WU pay 1333. I'm not positive the 49 and 50 batch are bad but I wouldn't take a chance on them.

I had one system that had started on them. They're all gone now. If anyone is having abort guilt, remember your wingman probably aborted their WUs and the replacement WU may not have even been sent yet, so abort and say 5 Hail Mary's.

For once, I cached a ton of WUs so I still have a bunch of the good stuff.

@Meisterkuehler.de Team, you have a great crunching crew. Hats off to you for all the other 1st place Formula Boinc projects you earned.

That's Formula BOINC finished for 2015. We finished 8th in league 2 with 173 points and top position in 2 projects.
This was by far our best ever position in the competition. Looks good for next year if we get on this right from the get go.

What are the plans for new season / next campaign ? Hopefully some new projects to enjoy, some old faithfuls to continue with work and hopefully a chase down a few teams along the way ..
