Actually, it's tighter than it was, but I still think you'll be okay.
49 hours to go and a healthy 2.4 million clear. You've lost ground by just 0.9M in 24 hrs.
All the same I think TSBT have got that coveted 7th place in the bag, so I shall dust off the eye patch, & brace myself for a couple of days of Rum, Sodomy & The Lash. Aaahhrr! :pirate:

Wow! A Piratical surge. The lead that AP have over Gridcoin is now up to 3.2 Million, which with just 30 hours to go should be pretty unassailable.
TSBT on the otherhand are at risk of being overtaken so I'll head back home again.

Carlos, did the project get the work done it needed?
BTW, nice work everyone. I may never reach that 50mil badge but I am now less than 18k away from that 16e WUProp app 100k purple star

3 of the 4 numbers were sieved less the leftovers like aborted, expire wus, etc.
Thank you all.

Good job everyone, and a big thanks to all our guest crunchers
Especially since it sounds like we managed to get a chunk of work done for the project

Also a lot of 14e wus were processed so there's a lot of post processing to be done. Started one last Friday night which was completed this morning and going for another post processing task which should start within 4 hours, first attempt just failed..

Ah-hem.
Well done to the Anguillan Pirates but can I just mention that TSBT did quite adequately considering that most of us were directing our output , in whole or in part, to the pirates.
We finished bang in the middle on 7th of 13 teams. :wav:
Top crunchers were:
Scole ............. 3rd
Megacruncher 23rd
Paul ............. 38th
Skywalker .... 49th
of 171 Crunchers. :wav:

Just to close this competition out, a big thanks to all those that crunched for either TSBT or AP at the request of NFS. Certainly was a case of the few standing up to the many

For application lasieved we are almost reaching 1000 factorizations which is an excellent milestone for NFS@Home. Still to queue 62 integers which will be about 700k units, the less payable ones, 36 per wu. How can a challenge be setup for an application?

Hey Carlos. Glad to hear that the comp did well for you guys. If you want me to set up another then let me know as I will need to transfer some resources back to AP as you need two active crunchers and a certain RAC to be able to call a challenge on a project.
As far as I am aware there is no way to call a challenge on a specific application, only a project. The only way I can think to do it would be that you guys would have to limit the number of units for the other apps available on the server in favour of the app that you want to be crunched.
The best option would be to increase the pay and hence make the app more attractive. The obvious issue for a competition is that people crunch to win and hence will not crunch the low paying units when for almost the same time ( I know , more resources required ) there are better paying options.

The only way to have a challenge on a specific application is the way Prime Grid does it. The project handles all stats and they set the start and stop times. No bunkering capability.pinhodecarlos wrote:For application lasieved we are almost reaching 1000 factorizations which is an excellent milestone for NFS@Home. BoincStats just pulls the stats from the project (credit numbers) and uses those. They have no way to differentiate which sub-project was run.
As Alex said, there is no way that I will run the 14/15 projects ... the pay is horrible. I finally got them to 1M each and I'll never touch them again unless the credits are greatly increased ... especially 14.

#65 Re: 10/7-17/7 Need Fast Ships, Pirates Ahoy NFS@Home Challenge
Best way is to increase the pay. Give a % bonus similar to how Prime grid does when it wants a certain project pushed.
That said I will easily set upa BOINCStats challange again if you wish.

Greg is not willing to change the credit values for 14e and 15e applications. I've been on this quest many years ago.

On what does he base the present credit levels? Not on time needed to crunch a WU.pinhodecarlos wrote:Greg is not willing to change the credit values for 14e and 15e applications. I've been on this quest many years ago.
Looks he needs 16e far more than he does 14e and 15e and awards them on that base.
He risks that all volunteers decide to crunch only 16e, as it rewards much better.

#68 Re: 10/7-17/7 Need Fast Ships, Pirates Ahoy NFS@Home Challenge
As everyone has said it can be pushed via decent credit. The more worthwhile the more chance of people crunching.
My hours vs credit are as follows:
Hours credit
16e Lattice Sieve V5 3,382.88 1,214,590 over both 16e types
16e Lattice Sieve 1,133.85
15e Lattice Sieve 1,773.90 166,408
14e Lattice Sieve 811.58 33,120
And I'm not sure why I've done so many 15e and I'd like another 190 hours on 14e but look at the credit!

I've composed the following table from my results:
NFS apps compared
NFS apps compared
| Application | Hours per application | Hours per sub-project | WUs | Credits per sub-project | credits/ hour | credits/WU |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16e Lattice Sieve V5 | 14,774.60 | |||||
| 16e Lattice Sieve | 6,018.42 | 20,793.02 | 10,767 | 1,399,710 | 67.32 | 130 |
| 15e Lattice Sieve | 4,398.88 | 4,398.88 | 3,019 | 132,836 | 30.20 | 44 |

It really is no surprise that people don't run the 14 and 15 apps. The numbers don't lie.

I'm tired of asking Greg to increase those credits but his main concern is the 16 application where we factor for Cunningham Tables (http://homes.cerias.purdue.edu/~ssw/cun/).Alez wrote:It really is no surprise that people don't run the 14 and 15 apps. The numbers don't lie.

We totally understand Carlos. Never nice to bang your head on a brick wall.
Greg makes his choices about his projects credit and the volunteers make theirs.
As I said, I will easily call a comp on BAM for you on AP or try Mega to call one on TSBT but we can only ask people to crunch the 14e app during the comp. Most people will crunch the 16e regardless.

Was looking at the feed jobs to 14e queue and a few projects are already reaching a point where they have no more candidates for the 14e, like the Homogeneous Cunningham, Lucas and Fibonacci, OddPerfect, GCW projects. All these will have in a near future loads of candidates for the 15e.
Right now and beside the ones on the queue, XYYXF has only 70 14e candidates and near-repdigit numbers project a few more but the latter needs more ecm on it before going into NFS@Home 14e grid.
Within an year these 14e tasks can easily be done independently without a distributed platform.

Carlos, I'll call a challenge for you on my ap account but think we should crunch it as tsbt. It will take me a day or 2 to get the required rac built up before I can call it. I guess you want it as soon as possible ?

Trying to see if Greg creates those 750k+1M tasks, as soon as I get a reply from him I'll let you know but the challenge as sooner as better so we can post-process the integers until the end of this year.

Greg replied, challenge can be set. He will keep the server fed but won't add in all time the 1M to not saturate the server.
I've been running 16e sieve tasks but had to make a break of 70 hours to run a post-processing tasks for the 14e family. I'm already in the team.
