#1 Man Down!

Post by MacDitch »

Got home tonight to confirm what I thought last night when I shutdown the computer - dead motherboard! :-(

Have spent some time on the phone and (eventually) got an 'engineer' coming on Friday to replace motherboard and processor. Unfortunately couldn't get it sorted earlier, but at least it's free. :?

Hopefully I'll be back with a vengence early on Friday.

There's major research yet to be done into it but it seems to me that flogging your hardware 24/7 in the pursuit of human knowledge is bad for it and that PSUs and Mobos are especially likely to suffer in the quest for knowing.

Anyhoo confess ye not to any Boinc crimes and hold those retailers/manufactures liable for any manufacturer defects you can pin on them!

Good luck. :D

Oh, I hedged my bets early and took a high level cover - theoretically it matters not why any part breaks down. :D It's paid off too, this is the third replacement mobo/proc pair to go in it in three and a half years, although the first in nearly three years.

On the downside, if the warranty had expired I could have convinced SWMBO to let me buy a shiny new machine.....
