No, I totally agree. Seti comps are basically a waste of time unless you crunch seti exclusively. There are just too many people who crunch it which means that units take far too long to validate to make any form of competition a valid offer. I have had units take weeks to validate as my wingman has hoarded tons of units so you don't see their returns for weeks.
Crunchers like Stephan Osteval, Tam etc. do very well for us as they crunch Seti and only Seti. For the rest of us, well, I sometimes use it as an incentive to boost my personal figures but that's all.

I do run some seti units just to keep me in the top 200, 000 :)
I've received ~35k credits in the last month and gone up ~25k places.
As you said, it's really not competition friendly.
