Over the last week or so it's been taking up to a minute for any page to load - on broadband! It could be that there are just too many dynamic smilies - or that I'm just impatient in my old age.
Slow Access.....

#1 Slow Access.....
Has anyone else noticed a distinct slow down in the speed of this site? I don't think its my end as I'm getting the same at home and work...

Buster is my dog. Sadly, Buster is gone.
Buster is the Malamute, Obi is the Golden.

Obi is the dog of the house now.

It was terrible yesterday but seems a lot better tonight. Still slow but just about bearable. :)

Good to know it's not just me then...phew!
I know in PHPBB3 there is an option to clear the server side cache as well as purge various other temporary directories. Unfortunately it's been quite some time since I've experimented with PHPBB2 though so I'm not sure if this is a new feature.
It might be worth just clearing the temporary files from the server. Even if the Admin console doesn't give you the option I'd have hoped it would be pretty easy to spot the relevant location on the server.
Of course...after a file backup

I would have agreed but I was actually unable to attach at all this morning. Only now (2 hours later) have I actually managed to load the board.
[EDIT] Have now browsed the board and it does seem to be back to its old self. I guess there was something being done to it earlier. [/EDIT]

Colin & I are on it and have a fix for it - which we keep applying!
Sadly, we don't really understand the problem so we can't prevent it recurring. So please be patient, and if you know anything about phpBB or MySQL please offer your assistance!

Afraid not. All I can offer is a copy of the screen I'm seeing - but I expect you've got that!...if you know anything about phpBB or MySQL please offer your assistance!
The maintenance work is appreciated, even if I don't say it often.

I have got varying amounts of experience with PHP, PHPBB and SQL.
Far from being an expert in any of them, but if there's anything I can do to help then just shout.
Often all it takes is someone else looking at the problem to point out something obvious
Whats the fix you have?
Have you considered upgrading to PHPBB3? The new version seems to be pretty stable and is a nice piece of software. The upgrade should be a fairly safe thing although backups aplenty folks.
Should make it more stable and give the place a nice facelift :)

#27 Wednesday's outage.
As you may have noticed we were totally offline last night. This was due to a major & hopefully one off problem at the Hosting company.

Well glad I didn't miss anything....our broadband was off line from 6am yesterday morning until around 1pm today. This was due to a major & hopefully one off problem at the Hosting company.
Ho hum, only 31 emails to read now, most of them selling me herbal remedies for problems that I don't have or telling me that bank accounts that I do not hold have been suspended.
